I thought my sending unit was no good so i bought a new and replaced it to find out that its still not working. I was wondering If there is suppose to a power wire connected to the battery because currently there is not one. There is a ground wire to the frame and a wire to the gauge. Am i missing anything? im not really sure. Ive read the other posts and have found nothing to help me.

My sending unit has no ground wire... only one wire to the gauge. I had the same problem with my unit when I bought it. Replaced the sending unit...no go. replaced the speedo assembly...no go. Turned out to be a loose wire connector at the sending unit...resoldered it and has worked fine since. Maybe that will help?

Well the wire to the gauge just goes between a nut ontop of the sending unit. the only other thing i thought it could be the wire connection to the gauge. Ive tried to get it off from the gauge and what a pain that is, got so frustrated i had to stop and try every other possibility

It could be a ground problem. You may need to ground the tank. Run a wire from the sending unit to the body.

Pull the wire off of the seding unit and grongd it to the body. the fuel gage should go all the way to full. If it does you know the wire and the gage are good. If it doesn.t the you know you have a problem with the gage or the wiring.

I know a guy who put a brand new sending unit in his CJ5 and had problems with the gauge not registering. We dropped his tank and found the plastic float was full of gas. He fixed a spare brass float and reinstalled the sender and gauge instantly worked. Don't rule out faulty new parts.

I agree. My brand new float had a hole in it also.

    Yep, use the brass float.

My gauge needle was swinging full to mt and inbetween. I ran a wire from the boddy to a screw in the edge of the tank. That cured the problem. I was a little unsure about drilling a hole for a sheet metal screw in the out side edge of the tank. It worked out well no more unsure gas gauge.
