Where does everyone get their scrap metal from. I just got a new welder and I want to do some practice on the spare stuff before putting the arc to my jeep and frame etc. I've look at craigslist with no leads and I'm holding off on going to the local scrap yard because I know they get their stuff for cheap and re-sell it back on the steep end. I don't want my pocket book getting hi-jacked by anybody other than myself. Thanks!

The metal supply house that I get new steel at also keeps a supply of 'used' steel that he sells cheep. Check with a local metal supply or junkyard.

    :iagree:

We have a couple around here. They sell it by the pound. Much cheaper than new. One has a really good selection and it's separated by ferrous metals, aluminum, and Stainless Steel. I visit there frequently for odds and ends.

Might also check you local fabrication business. They frequently have little stuff they'll give away or sell really cheap.

:iagree: Especially the previous projects part. Oh, and I tend to save stuff like usable race car roll bar materials, straight sheet metal pieces and the like. Can get to be quite the unorganized mess at times. Like now. R)

Call the local welding shops. They usually have a big pile of cut off pieces.
