    Hello!
Spent the day pouring over the new JC Whitney Jeep catalog today. Has anyone dealt with the CJ6 tub that they offer? We have a '74 CJ6, but the latest they offer is a '71. A few questions:
    1. Is the '71 tub an acceptable alternative for the '74?
    2. Are the body mount holes pre-drilled?
    3. Is the gas tank fill port pre-cut?
All advice and input is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks, Ed

Ed post some pictures of your floors and sides of your tub and we can advise on what to do. From what I understand from everyone that has purchased a repli-tub they wished they had just fixed the original.
If it is just the floors that need to be replaced they are spot welded in and you can use CJ5 front and rear to replace them except for the special CJ6 extension in between them.

IMHO take the JCW catalog to the closest garbage container, drop it in and dump this mornings coffee grounds on it so you're not tempted to pull it out again...

JCW doesn't sell anything that you can't get elsewhere faster, cheaper, and with better customer service. They don't stock anything - just take your order and turn around to another supplier and have it drop-shipped.

On the bodies - let's be clear. If it's a steel body you are looking at there is only one manufacturer of them -- MD Juan in the Phillipines.

When you see the term "Repli-Tub" that's a creation of WillysOverland in Toledo, who buys the MD Juan tub and spends time re-working it to try and be closer to original specs, as the bodies from MD Juan don't have a great reputation for fit and finish.

How well they achieve that I can't say - I've been to the shop (I did their website) and seen the types of things that have to get re-worked, but haven't installed one of their bodies nor spoken to anyone directly who has. The day I was there they were moving the gas fill location on a tub - it was off by almost 1".

I've also had guys on my blog comment on buying a fiberglass body through JCW - IIRC they are made somewhere in Indiana/Illinois and were cheaply prepped for shipping so much damage ensued. They also made the wheelhousings full-length so you lost out on the extra CJ6 space behind the seats.

But yea - post some pics, let's see what you have to work with.

If your looking for a fiberglass body, start with 4wd Hardware. Very good quality. My tub is 16 years old and still in great shape.

The new steel '6 body is partly pre 71 and some post 71. No body mount holes, very few firewall holes. Had the square hole for the later wiring plug. Gas fill is for under the drivers seat, no holes at the rear. Hood mount holes line up, but windshield bracket holes were way off. Not bad if you are doing a project with very few original parts, but bad if you want original without alot of mods. Skip JCW, jeepdoc had the best price.

Yeah, my eyes played tricks on me. I just got a custom dash from them and it's nice. Would be worth a shot to give them a call and see. They are big on custom stuff. $$ may be more then you want.

    x2 on JCwhitney

4wd, quadratec and your regional 4x4 shops would be better
