I was going to install a petronix conversion in my cousins CJ and stopped because I am pretty sure the one he got is not going to work right. I have one in my CJ the distributor is a delco 110376 6f17, same as his. but on the reluctor ring that attaches under the rotor. the metal tabs on mine that the petronix module sees are unevenly spaced alternating wide gap narrow gap (what I would expect to see for odd fire engine). On his reluctor ring the 6 tabs are evenly spaced. part number on his petronix is 1165, no idea which one is in mine. had the parts house look up the number again, they came up with an 1165, so whats the deal, boxed wrong? wrong one? any guesses.

Thanks, I guess the first question should have been how do you spell pertronix? then my search would have found it. so if #1165 is the correct unit, shouldn't the tabs on the reluctor ring be odd spaced for odd fire engine? On my CJ they are. In fact, when I put my engine together I marked the location of the tabs around the perimeter of the ring with paint and set my initial timing by that and it fired right up.

OK so I actually called their tech line. and they told me on the newer reluctor rings the magnets are not actually located where the tabs are, and you can find their actual location with a small piece of metel that will stick to a magnet. (paper clip). Have not checked it that way yet, but sounds like it's probably the right one.

I just installed the #1165 last week on my 225 odd fire and it work great. They have a notch in the magnet ring that orients toward the square post on the distributor. Very easy to install.
