I can't find the plastic part that bolts up just in under the speedo that holds the heater/defroster cables for my 74 cj5 renegade. Everywhere that has one is just as broken as mine. Do any of you have any idea where I can get one that is in good shape?

It's almost always broken, and there's no aftermarket source. If you are handy with plastic fab, you might try to fix it. It's a fairly simple part, though I'm not sure offhand what's needed to repair it.

    Welcome from Boston!

That's what I was afraid of... My father is a wood working ninja, so I thought about commissioning him to carve one out of wood, and then paint it black and vinyl cut the decals for it. Well, it would be awesome if someone turns up with one, but that is what I will probably have to do. Thanks for your reply.

I can't tell what part of the country you're in, but if you were to help us out a little here, and give us a general idea of where you live, there a various Jeep exclusive wrecking yards located throughout the US. One of them will more than likely have the part.

Be prepared to give up your first born child to obtain one, however.

Mine is in ok shape, but I think timgr is on the money. If there is any way to "rebuild" the thing with modern polymers and plastics, thats the route I'm gonna take.

May want to try some local high schools/trade schools to see if they have a small foundry. Someone may be able to cast some out of aluminum if you have a good one to use as a cast pattern.

v8cj5 that would be awesome if you had one. I live in east Tennessee near Knoxville. There are some really good (well people tell me they are good) jeep shops around here, but I cannot get any to answer their phones, and they are not open on weekends, and I can't bring myself to take a day off of work just to go on a probable wild goose chase. So any help, along with all the replies; would be/are greatly appreciated.
