I have beening working on getting my interior lighting and gauge lights to work for the past couple of days (since i bought the jeepster have had no interior lighting or gauge lights). The wiring behind the dash resembles spaghetti :). I think I may have to do a lot of rewiring over the winter to make any sense of it. I finally got my speedometer lighting to work, but I had to run a new wire to do that because everything is either cut or spliced in that mess. Once I got the lighting to work, I started to think that it may be kind of neat to have more modern gauges (better back lighting) in the dash. I looked around this morning and didn't really have any luck on aftermarket gauges, does anybody have any input?

Now that the gauge backlight is working, it doesn't illuminate the top of the speedo. Is that normal or is that a dirt/grim issue?

    Thank you in advance

OEM style gauges are available at 4wd.com or quadratec.com, and there is also Auto Meter and Sun gauge companies available from the same retailers. Auto meter is also at O-Reillys, Autozone, etc...

The Light sockets on the back of my speedo are all corroded. Only the high beam, amp light, and backlight work. I tried going to NAPA and Autozone for replacement metal light sockets, and bulbs, but the clerk at Autozone looked puzzled, and the local napa didnt carry them. Anyone know where I might get these? Could I 'upgrade' to plastic sockets and use a ground wire?

I had the same problem with the top of the speedo not liighting well enough to see at night. Discovered that this was due to the plastic light difusers being full of dirt. While trying to clean, they broke off. Now it lights great. Not tinted green anymore but it is lighted.

Have you tried the Jeep suppliers - Walcks etc?

I thought I was going to have to try and order some as well, but found enough spares in my parts pile to get by.

You have me thinking of LED upgrade when I get around to wiring the dash. Should be easy, I think.

Yea, I was thinking about that also. Splicing LEDs from the turnsignal switch and run them into the indicators on the speedo
