Finally got the old Jeep is painted and parts are going from the crate to being installed. But, when putting the healamp bowls in, I found the gaskets are in sad shape. The orginals looked like a preshaped fuzzy felt material. Does anybody know where to get new ones or any ideas of what to fabricate out of? The turn signal lamps also have them. I just can't see mounting the lamps direct to the metal, plus it may be for vibration control, too?

67 CJ5, mostly stock, warn od, five years repairing, but making headway!

When I painted my Jeep, I replaced the gaskets in question, mine appeared to be more of a regular gasket, so I cut new ones out of sheet gasket paper. I used a combination of the old gasket, and using the bowl as a template to make a paper template, then transferred that to the gasket paper.
I think the gaskets are there to prevent metal to metal contact and therefore rust. Sealing them in with some silicone (that was allowed to set up before final tightening) would accomplish the same thing quicker and easier...

Good! I thought about the silicone approach, too. But, being retro think I'll try the gasket paper first. Thanks for the response!

I am at that point in my rebuild and find that I am having electrical ground problems with the headlights. Rust and electrical continuity seem to be competing considerations. (And, I am waiting for my gaskets from Walcks B^)

Ah, thanks for the link, they are a little pricey, though at $6.95 each. Are they much different that gasket paper? The old ones looked fuzzy. I used heavy gasket paper and cut with scissors, glad I was paying attention that day in school.

FWIW I am going to use rubber washers under mine when I get to that point.
