The clutch fingers on my new clutch seem to be parallel with the flywheel after being bolted on. Is this the position the should be in. I just pulled the trans a second time to check the clutch because the pedal felt real stiff. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I am having the same problem. I am at the point where I'm thinking about ordering a new pressure plate. I'm wondering if I broke something during disassembly. Any clutch experts know for sure?

Sounds accurate. IIRC, the action of bolting down the p.plate to the flywheel actually tweaks the fingers so they point down a bit (compared to how it looks when ya take it out of the box). That's why it's critical to torque those bolts down evenly & incrementally so you don't get fingers pointing up/down more than others. Clear as mud? :D

i had the same problem and i learned that they have what is called a flat diaphram and a raised one. sounds like you have the flat one which is the one i got in my clutch kit from my local parts store and its incorrect. what i did and it works great is to get a pressure plate from a GM car or truck with a raised diaphram, thats what you need. The buick motor is of a GM build so any Gm pressure plate should work. I got one for a 70's camaro and does fine. What has happened is that when you tighten the plate down it pulls the fingers on the plate in and if its a flat diaphram when it pulls in that much it pretty much disengauges the clutch and makes the petal very hard. like i said i had the same problem and it took some time but i finally got it figured out. hope this helps yall. keep us posted on what you find out!

The thing is, the pressure plate and disc were in such good shape when I pulled them, I just re-used them. This clutch has run in the JEEP for a while. It's not like I ordered the wrong clutch; I have verified that it worked, and worked well. Now they're flat.

The GM ones have a raise and the Jeep one is almost flat sitting on the bench. I have pics of them side by side that I will find and put on my site (tonight or tomorrow) and put up a link.

Clint - from personal experience - the real important part is to have the torque on the pplate right. If the pplate and the flywheel is in good shape (I just resurfaced mine) put it at 30 - 35 Lbs. Any more and it seems like it does not fully release. I just swapped my GM clutch and Pplate for a jeep one... Have the LUK part #s if anyone is interested.
