When installing the coolant fittings and vacuum fittings in the freshly rebuilt F-134.... would you use locktite? Teflon tape, or what? If lock tite then what color?

I also want to be SURE I am correct on the coolant hose.

I don't have a heater, so therefore I can plug the coolant portal on the side of the block on the passenger side and plug the portal on the rear passenger side of the head also?
I will install a short 90 degree bypass hose from the front of the head to the water pump, and then obviously the main radiator hoses.

    Thanks everyone.

I hope to be up and running by tonight!

I would use teflon tape, not locktite. I can't recall the cooling line routing, but you should be able to either plug the lines or run a piece of heater hose from one coolant fitting to the other. IIRC, there's a heater fitting on the passenger side at the rear of the block that normally has a hose to the heater and then another hose that runs from the water pump to the heater as well. Then of course you have the two radiator hoses.

I might be wrong on this, but you'd be better off with a hose going from the pump to the fitting on the engine to "bypass" the heater core.

Think that if I didn't have a heater I would be inclinded to connect the two and make a bypass hose so the coolant would circulate and prevent hot spots in the cooling jacket....

That's my way of thinking, and the way I run mine. Figure the more heat taken out of the head in an even matter, the better for the head.

Thanks, That's what I've decided to do. Run a hose from the passenger side rear (top of head) coolant port to the water pump.

I still am a bit unclear on one thing.

What is the port which is located about 6 inches underneath the distributor on the side of the block? It is to the rear (left) of the oil fill tube.? Is it vacuum vent for the crankcase or is it a coolant portal?:?

I think is just found the answer... it must be a coolant portal and a drain (petcock) should be installed here.

Check here. It is not a coolant portal:

It's the petcock on my engine. Maybe your thinking of the other side of the motor John?
