Derek Redmond asked this of me this evening.

With the lack of originality with my tub, I'm not much help with this. You guys with original rigs have any input?

Yesterday I went and picked up hard top, and the guy informed me he was scraping the tub.
So I asked for the tailgate and hinges which he gave me.
his way of taking off the hinges was a crowbar and I managed to get a good chunk of the lower rear of the tub hinges, tail lights and all. Just went and looked at them this morning, and the driver side on has a plate to extend it out about 1/8 to 1/4 inch.
I should mention he said it was a 1965 cj5

I'm gonna see if this bracket can be stamped. I'll bring one up to my buddies shop.

I can see that, but I'm lost as to what this has to do with the question I posted. Sure, if it had pictures or something. I just didn't see any reference to the "ring" that stood out that Derek asked about, hence my confusion.

I probably had one... I remember clearly when tearing my CJ5 down seeing a round bracket on the Drivers side tail light assembly and not on the passenger side. In those days I didn't realize the value of saving original parts, and I threw it away, along with a bunch of other parts I'd love to have back. Any way I don't have pics but I clearly remember thinking "what the heck is this". 1961 CJ5

Though now that I actually have a picture in my head, seems like there was a pic of a Tux here recently that had this? Maybe Oakes, you posted it?

It would be nice to have reproduced.

Remember when I posted that CJ5 w/ the Stratton lift, pto and 2A bumper weight? I mentioned that it had "the bracket" between the body tub and taillight, just like my CJ3B.I always wondered if my firejeep should have the bracket on both sides or just the one. From the manuals, and experience, it's a one sided thing that the 3B page listed was on the 2A's and 3A's. We now know it's 3B and, at least, early CJ5/6's too. I sent pictures of the taillight bracket on that CJ5 to Derek and also of the military 4cyl Mitsubishi diesel.
My firejeep had repro taillights on it when I purchased it but in a box of spare parts was a fire engine red taillight bracket. I have a buddy that can stamp some parts or at least point me in the proper direction of where to have it reproed. I could always ask him to CNC one and send it to one of the parts dealers for reproduction. I need a week just to get to the box. You ought to see my garage now!
Here is the 3Bpage one and the one on the CJ5.

Don't know if this will help, but here on some pics of the items on my 71 and they are original.
The metal piece is about 3-1/2" dia. with the raised part about 3" dia. The thickness is about 1/2". The rubber piece is about 3-1/2" dia. and is about 3/16" thick. The Lic. plate bracket also came on it. Hope this helps.

According to the parts manual (1959) its a "Bracket, tail & stop light(Mounting base for tail light), p/n 669879. Only one per vehicle listed & not included for the right hand tail light kit. This was for the ALA lights used up to s/n 45245 for 5s, 12094 for 6s and , for the guys in da cheep seats  , s/n 34452 for the 3B's. After this they went to the Hall tail lights.

Now, they don't list the bracket for use with the Halls, but they *do* list a seperate p/n for the bolts to hold the not-listed bracket to the body

If anybody does get these repro'ed I need one, mines kinda rusted out :(

By '59 it appears that (if this part is original) the standoff is simply cut from 1/4 steel...

I have a set that I grabbed off an old tub, my spacer looked identical to the one above, but was rubber. I have no idea of the model year it came off of though.

Well, if Bill is gonna get some stamped out, put me down on the list, 'cause I'm gonna want one....since I'm going with Walck's repro Hall taillights.
