So I took my 48 2A off-road for the first time yesterday. It was great that thing crawled over anything I put in front of it. I even had to pull out a friend's lifted XJ twice.

That got me thinking, I've always seen these old video clips of guys taken their old Willys jeeps off jumps and getting a good amount of air time with them. It looked like fun so I decided to try it yesterday. I backed up from the jump about 20 feet and gassed it. I hit the jump at about 20 mph and sailed about 15 to 20 feet through the air before I landed. It landed pretty hard and about threw me out of the jeep--but it was a blast. I hadn't had that much fun in a long time.

Now, I know that can't be great for the jeep. What I want to know is how much "jumping" can one of these 2As take? Are there any precautions I should take in the suspension, frame, or axles? Maybe truss the D25 up front?

You should've taken a video, :) , that is easier on your jeep than showing your buddies again. And hey, we would have enjoyed the clip!

i wouldnt recommend it... there is a pretty good list of things you can break... axles, spring hangers, frame, etc...
But if you insist on it, please take a video of it R)

Yep, we did this the other day in a 7 that even had a boxed frame and broke all of the items listed, as well as the steering column because of the frame breaking. Good suspension, shocks, and beef up the spring hangers and definately beef up the frame, if you want to do it much. Also, you'll need axle trusses, because I have also seen plenty of bent or completely broken axle tubes. Not to mention the tie rod, I have seen those break the whole arm off the axle from jumping. You'll need a good cage in case you land wrong and lose the steering like we did, so you might as well tie the whole thing together and go all the way to the front with it to help strengthen the frame.

That's the main stuff I can think of to start with, from what all I have torn up in the past.:) :)

If you jump to much all of the rust will fall out and you will have to take it mud bogging to fill all the holes back up! Personal experience:)
I have jumped many times out in the sand dunes, It is alot of fun but boy they land hard some times. I have bent axles, broken frames, broken body mounts, but hey it was fun! Just money and time to fix. Note to self, no more jumping.

I wouldnt do it, To many hours of work putting it together just to tear it up. Thing about the movies and the jumping vehicles and getting that big air is they dont show you the same vehicle after the jump. i read a article about the dukes of hazard show, it said some like they used over 100 dodge chargers if I remember right for the show.

Jumpin' with your Jeep? Yikes! The only thing I plan to jump with my Jeep will be my car if the battery is dead!

Hopefully if you use your Flatty for anything other than parades you have a full roll cage and a safety harness, not a lap belt.

With that said...Dana 60's or bigger, a longer wheelbase, coilovers, custom built frame, and some serious $$$.

Video is a must anytime an act of stupidity happens R) "Hold my beer, and watch this!"

I haven't jumped mine yet but probably would once just for grins. Video is a must for any jumps. I would have to agree. But, if I'm going to go out at least I would be having fun. :)
