there is a space between my exhaust manifold and my exhaust pipe. The nuts are seized so I can't tighten them without snapping the studs. timgr informed me that there is suppose to be a donut there, and I need to do something about the space so cold air can't get behind the valves, and possibly for inspection too. Rather then drilling out the studs and putting a donut in, you think I can just clamp the manifold and exhaust pipe together then run a couple tack welds? I don't mind grinding the welds off if I ever need too seperate em, my only concern is welding so close to the carb and the manifold possibly being cast and not welding. Besides these two issues, is there any reason why I can't weld em?

Cut the nuts off, get a new donut and then hold the flange on with some "C" clamps. Mine has been like this for a couple off years.

Why not just pull off the manifold and fix it right? Can't be that big of a job.

:iagree: Fix it right. If you cobble it, it WILL break again, at the worst time.

    My grandpa had a saying

( why is there never enough time to do it right, but theres always time to do it over again )

I would just fix it right to begin with and be done with it. Its just like using the right tool for the work being done.

Alright, I'll drill out the studs and put in some bolts. I see doing it right for brakes/engine/clutch/tranny/etc., but the manifold to muffler connection I think possibly would be better just welded, if not just as good.

I guess the engineers at Willy's just overlooked how much better it would be to weld cast iron to steel tubing.

The only right time to do a temporary fix on your Jeep is if you are offroading and need to limp home so you can fix it correctly.
