I have a windshield with the bottom mounted wiper arms that are tied to the outside wiper motor. I got the wiper motor off but I can't figure out how the arms and internal mechanisms come off. Does anyone have a tip?

There should be access holes on the inside of the 'shield covered w/ plastic plugs. Pop off those plugs and have at it. :)

thanks, sorry.... I forgot to specify. I took the plugs off and took the small clips off that hold the internal arms to the wiper arm assembly. They came apart. The internal arms will come out. What I can't figure out is how to take off wiper arm assembly itself. The internal piece won't seperate from the outer. I unscrewed the outside nut(the one that is on the outside of windshield holding the arm) but it just spins now.

This is where I am right now. I can't remove the arms from the wiper motor or wiper arms. Does anyone have a failsafe method for this?

    Thanks.

If you are talking about taking the wiper arm off the motor there is flat L shaped looking spring that needs to be pulled back from the wiper arm shaft. As you hold it back pull on the wiper arm assy. base and it should slide up off the wiper motor shaft. Thats how my wiper arm assy. came off.

My internal parts have a "J" shaped clip on the pivot shafts. Remove the clip and the shafts just push out. Where the arm/pivot meets the motor, there is a bolt that clamps around the shaft on the motor. It looks a lot like the clamp on a battery cable. I'll see if I can shoot some pics of my extra set.

    Here you go.

    Here is the whole mechanism:

Here is a pic of the pivots showing the clips:

With the clips removed it should break down into 4 seperate components that you have to wiggle through the wholes that had the caps on them. Be careful not to bend the longest piece.

I think his are the older style top-mounts. I tried getting mine off one time and gave up. Let me know once you figure it out.

My windshield is a 1971 style. I need to replace the internal wiper arms (the longest has worn out). There doesn't seem to be enough room to get the motor off the windshield frame. What step am I missing? I am about to just order up a new, complete windshield...lol

Look at the last two pics above. There is a clamp around the motor pivot that needs to be loosened (it's designed like a battery terminal connector). When that is loose, the motor will pull straight off, assuming you've removed the bolts holding the motor on. Then you need to pull the little "J" clips and remove the individual pieces out through the holes on the interior side of the lower windshield frame.
