    Hello all again,

I found a tub from a 63 CJ5 that is in a lot better shape than my 72's tub, for example at 55 mph the wind pressure on my windshield shifts the body enough for the fan to hit the radiator. Ok so we're not talking a strong body here. The 63 looks solid other than floor pan and doesn't have any bondo in it or so the po says. How hard is it to change a tub over and will these two years fit each other? Thanks,
    Mike

Before replacing the whole body. Check the bolts, they might be loose.

Also I would not drive the way it is now. Sounds like duct tape and chicken wire is the only thing holding the body the the frame. In other words like one bolt holding everything down.

Also are you sure the whole body is moving and not just the front grill?

The whole body moves, the tub is rusted out. If you lift the steering wheel up and down you can make the windshield wobble and the tub is "separated" between the cowl and the rear section of the tub, where the drivers side "kick panel" would be. The grill and fenders are in good shape but the supports that are supposed to hold the grill from wobbling pull it into the fan from the wind pressure on the windshield and the body tub flexing backwards. On the positive note, the Jeep runs and drives great despite the tub issues. I've also found a tub from a 76 in really good shape but I know some of the body mounts will have to be fabbed up if I want to use that on my ecj5 frame.

I replaced the tub on my 72 with a 55 tub. I cut out the entire cowl and firewall from the old tub and welded them in to the 55 tub so that the holes and such were correct. After that it was pretty much a bolt-on.
