How much are you guys paying for your windshield glass? I am getting Quotes from $210.00 to almost $300.00 to install in my frame dropped off at thier shop with my gasket. This seems a little spendy But maybe im wrong.

Last one I had was in '96, I think it cost me under $120, with my frame dropped off to them. I really wouldn't expect it to be much more today.

Try to find one of the smaller shops in your area thats not to far to drive, I finished the restoration on a 46 ford pick up last year and had all the replaced in it. Total cost for the glass (tinted)and install was 175.00 and there was 5 pieces at small shop 30 mi. from my shop in a small town, I took him the old glass and when he got it cut for me I took the truck up and I helped him with it. They seem to like getting your business more than the bigger places.

I 100% agree on small shops. I just got a quote for 50.00 (just clear glass) or it was 100.00 for them to install. They told me bring in the whole windshield frame in order to measure the cracked glass I have for a perfect fit.

I had a body guy tell me it's fairly easy to install if you still have a good gasket. He described as have the gasket on, put some slippery (liquid soap) on and around the gasket where glass goes in, get one side of the glass started in, then using a small clothesline size rope, sneek it under the next couple of inches of glass to go in and pull it (the glass) into the gasket. Go all around till you got it all in. I will assume getting the bottom in first, then sides, then the top if the frame is upright. Two people will work better so glass does not take a dive. Maybe heat the rubber with heat gun to make it more supple? There may or should be a clip where the gasket all meets???

Open to any other better suggestions as I am needing mine done soon too.

Man I just cant find anything under $200.00. Tryed to find a local individually owned glass shop but it seems everything around here is a chain and they must have the same book cause I keep getting asked the same question, Does it have a half cab or a full cab? I say no cab, They say there is no listing for no cab. AARRGGG:mad:  . Guess Ill start over tomorrow. What a pain for a flat piece of glass. ( sorry rant off)

The big glass shop would not touch it. They sent me to the old, small shop and I paid less than $60 for the job (I supplied the gaskets).

But when I took it out of the truck, i notices it is tinted Green! (Well, matches my JEEP!)

A couple of pointers after doing mine...

I tried the rope/string thing, and it sort of works, but the line kept pulling out so I ended up using a small putty knife and lots of soapy water and it worked fine.

IMPORTANT TIP: Measure the gasket to the FRAME, not the glass. If you measure to the glass, the gasket will be too short and you will have a gap (don't ask how I know R) ).

The hardest part I had, was installing the locking piece. I found that if you work ahead, spreading the gasket apart with a pair of snap ring pliers , it helped alot.
