    Hi:

I read a couple of threads from folks recommending fel-pro gaskets for a rear diif. I have the AMC 20 rear-end. Would anyone know where I can purchase these at either online or retail?

    Thanks!!!!!

No need for a gasket. Use RTV.
If you have to have the gasket any good parts house can get it.

I'd use the gasket with some RTV unless the gasket you purchase tells you not to. The AMC 20 does not have a flat surface like a 44, 30, etc. It has a groove in the housing that a thin cork gasket sits in and then is supposed to push against the cover enough to seal. If you try using just RTV and don't get just the right amount of RTV in there it will continue to leak. We had the same issues back in the '80's and early '90's with the aluminum oil pans on Tempo's and Escorts that were designed the same way but used no gasket. They were a real nightmare to get sealed with no gasket. Nickmil

Yah. Good stuff. That's what I assemble most of the running gear I build with. Works great and when the cover's come off later is easy to scrape off. It almost peels off. On the AMC 20 I always use the gasket with that stuff to insure no leaks. On the other diffs I don't even bother with a gasket unless the customer specifies they want one on there. Almost never have a leak. Nickmil

Yeah and it can even be used in a desperate situation, like when you have a broken waterpump bolt and are too lazy to fix it right.R)

Thanks!!!! I will go with the gasket and the "Right stuff". I have tried it with a gsaket and with the blue RTV.... both times leaked! Third time should be a charm. Question, do you put the right stuff on both sides of the gasket?

If your gonna use "the Right Stuff" do not use a gasket. It is not the same as RTV. It is the gasket and you will not have any leaks.

I'd put it on both sides. CD60, why no Right Stuff with the gasket? I've been using that way for many, many years with no problems. The stuff is almost absorbed by certain types of gaskets which makes it work even better. Just curious if your experiences have been different? I agree, it is different than RTV. As for the blue stuff, I don't waste my money on it any more. Balls up too bad when trying to clean up and I'm not convinced it really seals all that well. Nickmil

You can use the gasket also but it's just not needed. I got to a point where I almost stopped using gaskets altogether and only used Right Stuff. That seemed to quell leaking issues with a lot of poor gasket designs from manufactuars. I kept a supply of caulking gun size tubes on hand always.:) I agree that your method does work very well and I have done it that way many times. My only issue is clean up seems to take a bit longer if you have to take it back apart for some reason. After all Right Stuff is liquid gasket.;)

The Fel-Pro part number is RDS 13889
Your local FLAPS should be able to order one.
