Now that the weather is heating up I'm remembering the problems I had last year with overheating. Last summer was the first time I'd ever had any trouble with it getting hot. It was also the first summer with the new winch. The jeep mainly gets hot on the highway so I think the winch is blocking too much air. I've been going back & forth between a fan shroud & an electric fan. I think I would like to try the shroud first if there is one that will easily fit my jeep. Do any of you know what will work for my application?

I am not sure exactly which fan would work for the 360, but I tend to lean more toward the electric fan to help out some. Either way, the electric fan or the shroud should cure your problem. Surley someone here will know what you need.

Since you are heating up on the highway I am not so sure a fan shroud or even the electric fan will help. Ram air should be sufficient cooling on the highway. Typically electric fans do not even turn on going down the highway unless you are running air-conditioning.

A plugged radiator and/or obstruction (winch in the way) sounds more like the problem since low RPM cools fine.

If you wanted to go electric fan, I found a set of $25 junkyard dual Ford Taurus fans work great. You will have to fab a mounting bracket.

Tend to agree with xlr8n. The winch being the problem seems unlikely, since there are plenty of them out there and compaints don't seem to be common. I'd suspect the radiator is plugged up. How many rows does the radiator have? There was a HD cooling option for both the V8 and I6 IIRC, which included a bigger radiator and a fan shroud. These radiators have room for 4 rows IIRC.

I bought the radiator new 2 years ago so hopefully it's still good. I'm not sure how many rows it has, I'll have to look when I get home. My husband pressure tested the system and there doesn't seem to be a problem there.

I can see everyone else's point about the radiator, but I also know what a lot of the folks that I offroad with have had to do to theirs. Some times with the bigger engine in them, they just need a little extra air circulation. Especially if it started overheating after you added the winch and it mainly does it on warmer days. I would say a little help from an electric fan should fix your problem, but I could be wrong.

While on the subject, does anybody know what electric fan will fit between the grill and the radiator on the ECJ's? I tried about four different ones a while back and never found one that I had enough room for.

I read through all the threads and did not get a clear answer to your problem. Did you figure it out yet? If not lmk. I may have a few suggestions that were not posted here.

I saw a guy's Jeep in Moab who had cut two round holes in the side of his hood and covered them with boat vent louvers. It was a very neat looking job and he said it encourages air flow across the engine and kept everything cooler.

I used to work and live in Palm Springs for many years. V-8 Jeeps did'nt o'heat by nature even when wheelin at 110+degrees. A shroud should be a must. I've had thermostats stick partly open. Also pressure check the radiator cap, if it does'nt hold it's labeled pressure, the boiling point will be lower. Retarded timing and the fan clutch can also be issues.

I just ordered a shroud from 4wd hardware. Probaby should work for you. All the holes line up for easy mounting.

Since you all are reviving this old thread I'll give you an update. We tried an electric fan from a Mazda. It was a tight fit but my hubby got it in there. It sucked the life out of the elecrical system so I had to upgrade the alternator. Unfortunately the fan didn't fix the problem so the old one is back in there and I now have a high output alternator that I was going to eventually get anyway.
Next step will be the fan shroud. Since the jeep is going back down to the frame soon we will add it during the rebuild.

    That wasn't the problem either.

How fast are ya going down the highway? My jeep gets hotter than normal at high RPM's on the highway. Allways did and allways will unless I keep my speed down.
I recentlly installed a fan shroud to reduce overheating at low speeds and idling. A noticable improvement there. Made no difference at "excesive" highway speeds, but I did not expect that it would.

The motor is the same one I've had for the last 4 years so that's not the problem. It heats up between 60 and 65 mph.
