I want some cool ideas on a fabbed winch bumper. I have my own but would like more to consider. Pics or explanations either one. I haven't bought metal yet but will next week. Thanks all

Not exactly a "fabbed" bumper, but I had to modify it to fit. Got this Jpflat2a. It was for a Toyota Landcruiser, and fit the Jeep pretty easily with some simple mods. The winch mounts sideways behind the bumper instead of on a plate. This keeps the winch lower and out of the way of the lights and grill.

    Whole write up is here.

I was thinking about just welding a 3/8" plate to the back side of the stock bumper. Then cutting the holes for the fairlead and mounting the winch just like your picture you have.

Those are great ideas. I was thinking about keeping it low like in your pic. It looks clean and usefull. Perfect

The tow hooks I plan on using are from a Ford Super Duty (Freebie) and mount in a very odd way. That may take a little extra thought but should be possible. I may even put a brush guard on it. We have a lot of tight tree lined trails here so protection for my grille is a must. I don't worry about the fenders as much.

Here is mine. The tow points are three pieces. Two 1/4 thick, one on each side of the frame to sandwich it. Then they go thru the bumper with 1/8 inch piece in between to fill the gap. The winch mount is a warn mount, I just modded it to fit than made it perminent.

I made my mount from scratch. I posted pics in a thread named "front bumper" in the fabricators forum if you want to search and look at mine. I used 1/2 inch thick bar steel for mine.

I used a 9" x 5/15" channel cut to fit inside the frame to mount the winch. the frame supporting the fairlead was made from 2x2x5/16" angle iron.

Here was what I built this summer for the '6. It's a PTO so the mounting is different but may give other's ideas. The front mount for the winch and the front clevis bracket mounts are 3/8" wall DOM tubing that go all the way through the bumper and welded tight and then are tapped for the mounting bolts. This seals the bumper up for later use as an air reservoir. It's already tapped for a drain and air inlet/outlets. Nickmil

Hey Nick, could you give us more details about the air inlet/outlets? I really like that design.

    Thanks,
I put the drain on the bottom close to the frame on the passenger side. I used an Allen head plug to plug it off so no chance of it getting broken or knocked off. The air hose inlet is on the back side of the bumper on the passenger side and the quick connect is right above that. You can't see them from this pic as they are hidden and protected by the bumper. I'll try and get more pics if you want that show more detail. Nickmil

Here's a few. The second to last one's hard to see but should show the drain. The last one shows where the fittings will be for the air. The top one is just plugged right now. The bottom one actually has a drain valve in it now but that was just to plug the hole. The hose will go in on the bottom hole where the valve is now and the top will be the quick connect fitting for air. Nickmil

Sorry for the late post but I just joined up  Here are some more ideas for you if its not too late. The receiver has not hit ( yet ) on approach ( I tie the " D " Ring in the up position ) [IMG]

The rod and ring sticking out of the jack handle is a " pound in the ground " winch point if no trees etc available.
