    Hi everyone,

Just bought a 71, cj, V6. The passanger side exhaust manifold is cracked.

So since the steering needs upgraded in the future I am looking for a set of 231 manifolds. I have searched this forum and found differant opinions as to what year(s) 231 will work on my 225. Some say 76 and some say mid 80's. Can someone tell me for sure what is the latest year I can pull from?

    Thanks

This is the 3rd & probably last repair that I'll probably be able to do to this one. After doing this just a few trail miles after spending a fortune on a new exhaust system I really would like to replace it & not go back to headers. Anybody go to headers that has an extra one (or two) available? I think this one is stock for the '71 225 but since I've had so many variations over the years I've lost track of where this one actually came from.

BTW, yes it did break off, melt the rear airline for the ARB & the tranny/T-case vent, & the fibeglass body...grrrrr

If you are going to upgrade the steering you only need the driver side 231 manifold. Move the driver side 225 manifold to the passenger side. They are the same.

I bought both sides for a 231 for $110 +sh, because after I cleaned up the engine area I noticed a hairline crack in the driver’s side also.

I've already got a 231 manifold on the drivers side as I've had power steering since I did the conversion to the V6 back in '79. The 231 manifolds that I have won't match-up to my existing exhaust system, thus the issue. Basically, since all the V6 jeeps came with two of these they ought to be fairly common....or at least you'd think so with so many guys running headers.

I like your engineer comment. I have to work with those folks on a daily basis, am good friends with two & my uncle & cousin are engineers. I like poking fun at them whenever their "engineerness" shows...like; An optimist sees the glass 1/2 full; a pessimist sees the glass 1/2 empty; & an engineer has observed that the vessel is exactly twice the neccessary capacity!
