From a revious post about my VIN plates I have come to realize my cj5 may not have the history I was told. I now know that at some point it was owned by the US Government.

Is there some way to trace the owner history of my Jeep.

In some states you can do a VIN inquiry through the DMV/BMV. If you have a hunch which state (if any) it may have come from, perhaps start there. I've gotten 14 years of history via this method.

have you tried carfax.com? I'm not sure if it will work on older VIN's but I'd give it a try.

Nope carfax will not work, they will only do cars after 1981 when the 17 digit vin number was put in place.

I know the car was in VA but the mva there will only give you records for the dates you owned the car.
