I'm building a storage box for my CJ5 that will fit between the rear seat and the tub (I don't have a tailgate). I want something waterproof to store my tow straps, jumper cables and other assorted goodies. The only problem is, I don't have rear seat yet. 'Aquiring' one of those is quite a ways down on my list and I want to build the storage box first. Can someone grab me the following dimensions? Don't worry, I will allow for variation and such. Thanks in advance! (Sorry about the poor drawing)
I guess I should clarify that the rear seat will be installed in the factory position. The weld nuts are still in place.......

Sorry, can't help you with what you need, in my jeep, there is no place to put a box there. Here is what I came up with for storage. Maybe you could make something similar, plenty of room there on the fenders, plenty of storage also. I made mine out of plywood, but someone with a welder and talent could make it in metal, or get ammo boxes.

They bolt on the fenders, and they are easily removable.

Some of the rear seats are mounted in different locations and not all the
    seats are the same. IMHO.

Just my $0.02....but I think I'd hold off building the box until you have the seat. Hate to put all that work into something to not have it fit...also with the fixed back seat in the factory spots you *may* not have much of a gap at the top. Might be better off with a fold and tumble...

I had a fixed back seat in my 5,and moved it ahead of what I think would be a factory mount location (to lose some interference with the sloped supertop rear window) and I was only able to really use that space because I had a tailgate to access it.

Without a tailgate that'l be a big pain. I don't have exact measurments but i can tell you i don't have more than a few inches(if that) between the back seat and the rear of the tub. It might work if the rearseat were a fold and tumble, mine isn't.

I took my rear seat out, but I recall that it pretty much fit right against the tailgate. Not more than a few inches clearance at the bottom of the seat.

I have more storage under my rear seat, than behind. I custom made some mounts for the rear seat for that purpose. Seat is a little high, but I'm happy with it.

Thanks guys. That's what I was afraid of - that the seat was tight against the top. I like the idea of mounting it forward of the original mounting position though. The only function the rear seat will serve is hauling my kids around on the rare occation and they don't need much leg room. I think I will take your advice and wait until I mount the seat.....Thanks again  .
