Linex tub??? Or not???

Reading in another post about some guys not liking the texture of bedliners inside the body tubs. I'm curious now, what the objection is before I have mine done at the Linex store. Is it a cleaning issue???? I just thought it would be good for the no-slip value..........
Please give me your thoughts on this process so I don't spend money needlessly. And, if bedliner is not the way to go, what would you do to treat the inner tub surface??? Mine is all fiberglass.

I have a bedliner, I'm not sure what brand it is but some of its rough, some of its smooth. For some reason the texture isn't too consistant in mine. However all of it shows dirt, but its also black, take into consideration some colors will show dirt more than others.

 

I like indoor/outdoor carpeting - much nicer on the bare tootsies, much quieter - but I'm in the minority here. Plus it does have some drawbacks, sp. holding water.

 

I have had two trucks rhino lined, the stuff is awesome! I have rolled on herculiner in green jeep. I really like the stuff. I didn't think it is that rough, but I don't drive my jeep barefoot. It is for sure durable. As far as cleaning, I guess that depends on what your looking for in your jeep. If you want that show look the stuff (rhino lining) is very easy to make look new agian. They have a spray on cleaner for it that makes it shine. But hey, to each his own. Next time I do a jeep I will gut the interior and have it sprayed with rhino lining.

 

I have a spray in liner, not sure what brand. It has the appearance of Line-X. I definitely vote bedliner over paint. My only complaint is that the black gets hot when it sits in the sun with the top off. Maybe a different color would be cooler?

 

I have heard that Durabak has a smooth texture. I used Herculiner and I like it so far. I haven't had any problems with it. Plus, it's a ton cheaper than having it sprayed in. Mine was under a hundred bucks. I probably need another coat on it.

Sounds good so far......Cleaning for me though, won't be too bad as this is my "street/go-get-the-ice-cream-jeep" & "drive-through-JMU-campass-and-check-out-the-chicks-Jeep". No off road for this one. That's what the '56 is for.


Is the Durabak stuff easy to apply??? I'm getting a price from Linex this evening, so I'll decide if I can afford to have somebody else spray it or if I'm gonna do it myself.

 

another vote for herculiner! i love the stuff, i did it in my XJ a year ago and its still there, i just power wash it and its good as new!

i love putting it in my ecj5 because if i put it in thick enough you cant see how bad my welds are on the "floor pans"

I remembered this post and thought I'd share my Durabak experience. I ordered a gallon online at their site. There was no email confirmation, and a couple of weeks later I wanted to inquire where it was. The phone number on the website is an answering machine only, and I also left a message on their website. No response. 3 days later it arrived but was the wrong color. I called the NJ office that was on the MSDS sheet, and also Colorado again. Colorado (the distributor) claimed their phone system was down for several days and thats why they didn't call back. But that couldn't possibly affect the computers and it was my mistake, tough luck. If I want Red they are happy to place a new order for me. So while my credit card has a dispute center and I'll get my money back, I'd hate for anybody else to go through this.

 

I had ordered Herculiner for the underside the same day (my own comparison test!) and it came just fine about 5 days after order date. I just ordered the Red from them today. 7 day delivery estimate, spoke to a real live person. Much better.

 

I just completly rebuilt the floor in my '79. The only thing I saved was the tunnel. I rolled / brushed on the original Durabak. It came out (IMHO) excellent! I don't think these pictures do it justice, but I am VERY happy with the outcome for $100. I would never, after doing it myself, pay someone $400 to spray Rhino or Herculiner. Assuming they go on just as easy, I would recommend doing this project yourself. I put on 3 coats (these pictures were taken after 2) and it covered over all the seams on my sheetmetal work, rivets, screws and even the few bolts I used are hard to see! The texture is rough, but not as rough as my Herculiner in my pickup. This is the way to go!

 

I ordered Herc for the underside to combat beach rust issues, and Durabak for the interior. 2 different companies, wanted to see what the products rolled out to be. Compare end results. I've got another Jeep to do the same thing to. Certainly I found there was an immediate difference in order fulfillment and customer satisfaction.
