    Hi all,
Had a problem today and was looking for some advice before i start replacing the wrong things!
I was driving all morning everything running great, then i was driving along about 50kmph, took my foot off the accelerator for a moment to slow down for something and when i put my foot back down everything just stopped and i had no power. I was driving on auto gas at the time. I pulled over thinking it had stalled, and it would'nt start again, not on petrol or gas? Ive got spark and electrics are working fine, but there is no fuel coming through. The fuel pump is ok, and as it doesnt get fuel on both petrol or gas, so it must be something that would affect both. Any ideas greatly appreciated as im going to have to take it to the garage tommorrow and i don't want to get ripped off putting uneccessary parts in. Thanks........

I don't understand what you mean by it doesn't get fuel on both petrol and gas. Aren't they one and the same? Anyway is a fuel filter clogged, or maybe line plugged?

Please explain the difference between petrol and gas.
We have gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene and white gas which is for lanterns and such. Don't know what petrol is!
How do you know the pump is fine, is it electric or the original mechanical one? Other than that if the pump is working you must have a plugged fuel line or the fuel pickup in the tank is plugged.

Sounds like a fuel filter somewhere to me, but I am not familiar with your set up. Basically, if you are getting fire, track down the fuel line and try to find where you are getting fuel to. If the fuel is getting all the way to the carb, then it has to be something to do with the carb. Kinda hard to say without me looking at it, which is pretty much out of the question from here.

I knew Europe calls gasoline petrol but didn't realize an engine can be setup to run on gasoline or LPG. Not being familiar with that type of setup it's sure hard to diagnose anything. What do you have to do to switch from running one or the other?

Its quite common here to have both fuels, find it strange that you don't have this, dont you have LPG over there at all? You have your regular gas setup and then an extra LPG tank, saves a lot on fuel costs. And you just have a switch in the dash to go from one to the other. But thats why i find it strange that it wont work on either, because if there was a block in one the other should work as they have seperate fuel lines. I'll can post some photo's tomorrow if anyone is interested in seeing what it looks like..

Yes, we do have LPG (Propane) here. We fuel our Bar-B-Que's with it.;) R)

On a serious note, I think I would start with the ignition.

Pictures would be good. I'm curious about the setup. Since it's 2 totally different types of systems I wouldn't have thought it could be setup to work.

Glenn florida power used it in there service vans all thru the late 70's and early 80's setup the same way.
Herobi, propane is run over here but is not distributed the same way as you have it over there. We get our propane from gas distributor or hardware type storesthat distribute it for gas grills and such or winter heating, it is usually not available in bulk traditional gas or filling stations.

We used LPG and gasoline as alternative fuels in the 1 ton duallys we used to transport fish for Texas Parks and Wildlife. If it happened as you changed over it would be either the switch (may have a fuse, check it) or the diverter valve (track it down and have someone cycle the switch for you). Also the obvious, make sure there is fuel in the tank you switch to. Were you completely out of LPG when you changed over? Did you try switching back after it wouldn't run?:v6:

Hey, I've been to Holland, Maderodam{spelling} The minature city with the trains, cars, etc-way back in the late fifties, my Dad was stationed in France. Don't feel like a stranger, welcome to the forum. I would check the diverter valving also, since it will not run on gas or LP.

I had half a tank of LPG left when it happened, i had'nt switched over, just driving along and cut off, then wouldnt start on anything. I thought diverter valve as well or fuse as it went so suddenly and without any warning. But if it was the valve then wouldnt it just stop one fuel not working?
I think gas is a lot cheaper over there compared to here, maybe thats why there's no need for you to have it at the tank stations..we pay soooo much

Have you looked at the transition valve?? the one that switches between LPG and gasoline?? I would start with that then look to the means of firing the fuels.
