Well, I pulled my gas tank on my 70' jeepster to find what looks like turtle soup and wood varnish on the inside. I searched a few places online for a new tank with no luck, any help out there? I would have it resealed but the welded mounting bracket on the side is the culprit and I think it would leak again. I'd really like to just put a new one in.

Sounds exactly like the one on my 70, same thing right down to the mounting bracket.
A couple of good links to aftermarket tanks because, unfortunately, no one makes an exact replacement for 67-71 Jeepsters. Ebay would be the best source for a used or one the parts for sale section on the JCCA or the AJC.
Another option that was just recently posted is to get one for a 72/73 Commando as these are identical to the CJ and are still available new. You will need a filler tube from the 72/73 or you will have to modify what you have. You'll also have to relocate the tank mounting brackets. You would also need a sending unit. Whatever way you go you will have to modify.

Yeah you are pretty much sol as far as a replacment goes. The tank on my 71 was full of holes so I relined it with a product called Red Cote. Three months in and so far so good, and it only cost me 36.00 in comparision to having it done at a garage for 100.00 or better.

Was it hard to do that? I've got problems with some rust clogging up my fuel line, & need to seal the tank . . . or just by a new one, but it's hard to get the bride to let me pony up $100 for a new tank right now.
