th350 on cj-5

    has anyone ever put a chevy th350 tranny on a cj-5 im wondering if itll bolt up any good on mine since im gunna run a v6 chevy :twisted:

    search the forum, there are a lot of threads on this. It can be done however it is not an ideal swap, it's too long..

    Bad news. I have seen several done and would not do it myself due to really short rear driveline. The last one I saw had the motor as far forward as possible and still only anout a 6 inch driveshaft.

    yeah dam well my cousins having it checked out rite now it was a tranni he had for his chevy camaro and its really small without the transfer case and im hoping to bolt on a dana 300 :twisted:

    A dana 300 will also require a rear axle swap due to the centered output. and the dana 300 is also a bit longer than the 18, add that to the longer tranny and the adapter and you are going to have to relocate the rear axle back another foot...

    The TH350 will bolt up to the Chevy V-6. BTDT.

    My dad runs a T350 behind his :v6: with absolutley no problems. Rear drive shaft is fine......FWIW

    I ran a TH350 behind the 225 in a '71 I had, it worked great! You can get the TH350 with a uni-bolt pattern (both the Cevy and Buick pattern).

    I prefer a stickshift in a jeep, but plenty of good reasons to have an auto. I've owned jeeps set up like's being talked about here. Worked well and an auto will take take care of the drivetrain, less breakage due to shock much more foregiving if you get into a spot.
