Very Nice, Roy. I have some various 'Chromed ' parts so let me know if you could use any of them. I believe that only your Tux's should have Chrome on them , not on my Intermediate though.

I pulled the boat out of storage to clean everything up with plans of putting this combo into our annual festival parade (very small town). In preparing a description for the parade announcer, it finally dawned on me that my boat was even older than the CJ, and the trailer the same year.

We have a wide variety of fishing venues in our area, from remote ponds and lakes, to large lakes, to large rivers, to smaller rivers and streams, so it took me a while to figure out what kind of boat would be best for getting on the water. I finally landed on this 16' fairly-flat version of a hull. We picked it up a few hours away from home, so had a few surprises once we finally got there.

Did I mention the boat had a hole in the bottom of the hull, rotted floors in places, and even rotted stringers that hold the floor in place? The oil injector pump had been epoxied over as well... Somehow the seller failed to disclose those things in his ad. Yes, I got a serious discount as a result.

No real worries, my Dad and his buddies built boats when I was a kid, and I was deeply involved as well. I actually just wanted to find something we could kick-around and see how much fishing we could get in, or whether we'd use it at all. I hadn't had a motor boat since the kids left for college 18 years ago.

The boat is a 1965 Ken Craft. Not a lot of them out there. Within two hours of getting it home I had the floors completely torn out. That's when I discovered the rotten stringers (floor joists). This was in the midst of the initial COVID outbreak, a diversion for us during lockdown.

At that point I had thoughts of pulling the motor off and just floating the hull down the Columbia River. The simple project suddenly became a massive undertaking. Was I ready for this? I know you guys can relate.

So I did a complete redesign from the fiberglass hull on-up. Large flat fishing deck up front, center drive console, enlarged fuel cell, seating for seven, bimini top, and more. It's been a terrific boat and exactly what I needed. Looks much better behind the CJ than the van! Now we can drop it into even MORE remote lakes and ponds. Looking forward to it!

Had to redesign and modify the trailer as well. It wasn't built for this boat, and that's why there was a hole in the hull. Now they match perfectly. (Thanks Dad for all of that knowledge growing up!)

I had to raise my spare tire just to get the tongue onto the hitch ball. Didn't want to drop the hitch any lower if I could help it. Had the hitch custom-built by my exhaust guy last year. First time I've used it. Still have to wire it all up.

So now I have a matching period-correct combo that I never even planned! 1968-1965-1968!

Thought I'd post a pic of the boat project on the way back up. I gutted the boat down to the bare fiberglass hull, redesigned everything, lowered the floor 4", added the fishing deck, and went up from there.

This pic was after the lower stringer framework had been redesigned and fiberglassed in, laying the new deck on top and glassing it down as well. This hull was probably 2-3 times stronger/beefier before we even got the floor laid down. Needed it tough for local river-running.

Framework was later added underneath the upper deck. This was while test-fitting the fishing deck.

Blew a wheel cylinder on the tan Jeep last week and she's all better now. The Green Camo jeep will be painted Aqua Blue someday and my wife wants to use her around town, ice cream runs and such.

    We loaded up the CJ5
and towed 5 hours up to Redding and then up into the Trinity Alps. where we me up with some old and new friends.
Met up with Norcal69 and his wife with their pretty Blue/Green CJ. Kate drove and did a good job of it.
The scenery up in the Trinities is absolutely awesome.
This was the first trip out of town and in the hills for my CJ5 and it came home running better than it left. Albeit dirtier.

Ran into a fellow cj5er, same color, only two months off from each other. His was a v6, with a sweet front bench and a tailgate that has the Jeep logo on it. Mine was built in Sept and his in Nov so maybe a change over?
