While there are a TON of options for T90 shift pattern decals out there, it seems as if the T98/4 Speed decals are unicorns. There were a bunch of newer designed options on ebay but only one came close to looking like the original.

There used to be a vendor that made OEM decals but they've stopped making them. Someone else took over and after reaching out to the new person via email, I was told they were $40 each! :n:

I wanted to share my experience on ebay because I feel like we might FINALLY have an affordable option for an OEM style decal for T98 / T18.
The seller is in Istanbul so I didn't have high hopes initially.

    Here is the link:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/403923162168?var=673804219817

As you can see, they are pretty close to the original OEM decal. The font is a slight difference but that didnt matter to me.

I received the item after just a couple days which was amazing considering where it was coming from. They also included 2 decals unexpectedly. Unfortunately, there was a typo. It said "dry HAND surface roads" where is should have said "dry HARD surface roads". ALSO, the yellow of the decal was not as rich of a yellow as oem and was considerably smaller.

So I noted this in the feedback on the item and proceeded to forget about it and accept my losses as a learning experience.

I was surprised to wake up today to a few messages from the seller offering to redesign the decal and send me a replacement!
I took some pics of a factory decal as an example, sent them a few measurements, and got a message that they'd be redesigning and sending me out a new version on monday!

I'll update this post once I receive the new decal but was excited to share that we might finally have an affordable option for these elusive shift pattern decals!!!

Just wanted to post an update to this. After WEEKS of back and forth messaging, accidental wrong shipments, and waiting for the packages to clear customs.... I finally got the replacement decal.

Looks pretty close. they also sent me an extra one! Not an exact match to the original but its definitely good enough for my needs! :)

Nice! Designing things like this is fiddly and minimum purchase (if you have them printed for you) is pretty high. I made a couple for myself and at the minimum of 10 they came out to a couple bucks each. Nobody making money at that rate but I have a one of a kind sticker for my weird shift pattern Gladiator.

I ended up making one for my '71 with a late T18, overdrive and dual stick transfercase. Turned out nice:

Also one for the '68 with T-90, OD, single stick:

It drove me nuts having a separate OD decal when it's between the two other shifters.

I have the 2 extra stickers with the typo I got originally. If you don't mind it saying "dry HAND surface", you can have em for shipping cost. Prob like $2

Hey @SweetPea1964CJ5, your sticker was for the 4-speed with the up and to the right shift pattern, right? If so, I'd like one! Can it fit in a normal envelope?

Hey! I actually just dropped em in the mail to another user. If you check out the ebay Link at the top, you can get the new and improved version from that guy I got em from. Just maybe add a note that you'd like the new version without the typo LOL. The first time I bought em, they were shipped very fast.

I tried that link initially but they dont sell them any more and have farmed them out to another person. After contacting the Vexydesigns email, I was told they were $40 :/

In this day & age if you have a laser printer, or know someone with a laser printer, it's damn near cheaper to buy a pack of vinyl sticker or water slide decal paper off Amazon & make you're own than to buy one off a vendor.

I've used both types with truly excellent results.

How well does the ink hold up over time and moisture?

The vinyl decals I ran off 7-8 years ago are holding up pretty good. I'm expecting better on the slides as they tend to be used on things not in direct sunlight. The only ones that didn't work out was when I tried the "print-reverse-image-iron-it-onto-something-shiny-metallic" trick for some serial number plates, they last about a year then the toner starts rubbing off.

Interesting. I think I might order some of that paper and attempt to do some shift decals. Sending them to a printer is expensive, time consuming, and a waste of money if you screw something up. That's what's kept me from offering up my modified shift decals to others.

You realize you are posting instructions for the car thieves that can read but can’t figure out 4 shift levers. Of course that assumes they can drive a manual transmission.

LOL. I guess you could always slap on a decal from the wrong transmission if you really wanted to mess with a would-be thief.

If they can't drive a stick shift, it's about as useful as hieroglyphics on the dash:

A couple decades ago, on my early Trooper, I swapped the 5-spd transmission and single stick transfer case shifter knobs, which had embossed patterns. Got a lot of laughs from knowledgeable folks.
But the down side came when I left it at the airport parking garage. I could smell the clutch when the clueless gen-x attendant brought it out - in 4-Low 5th gear (auto locking hubs)!
I had to adjust the clutch cable to get enough free play to stop the slipping before I could even drive away. New clutch shortly thereafter.
