have no idea regarding if the EF flex plate will bolt up but you may need to have it balanced to your motor if it does fit.

I have zero experience with the Dauntless, so the same question keeps coming to me: Why does a manual transmission flywheel need a flex plate at all? Does the flywheel not have a ring gear?

The OP is installing a 700r4 automatic so needs the flex plate for the torque converter to bolt to. The manual transmission flywheel will not work with an automatic.

225, 231, and 252 flywheels and flex plates all use the same bolt patterns. 350 is not the same. I can’t speak for 300 or 340.
The balance needs to be matched to the engine used, even fire to even fire, odd to odd, etc. I just had a heavy 225 flywheel balanced to a 252 crankshaft (along with the rest of the rotating and reciprocating assemblies).

Well, that explains it. I missed the part about installing a slush box. Thx.

Ok. Update. I’m out at my buddy’s and he has pulled the tranny. So he is doing it right.

problem is, instead of 2 bolt holes being slightly off on the crankshaft, only one of them is. As in 5 are evenly spaced and 1 is not.

And all of the flex plates for the 225 he’s ordered, the center hole is too small. He’s also got a flex plate for a Buick 300 and center hole fits, but bolt holes don’t line up. And I brought out a flex plate z111 that’s for an even fire, and it fits the center hole but of course, bolt pattern is off.

Below is a pic of the crankshaft. Any ideas?

    I ran a TH350 for a few years
    came out of a cutlass
    flex plate fit the 225
and my guess is the 700r4 is basically the same as a 350

Flex plate from the ‘81 252 (4.1) I’m building. Same bolt pattern and center hole as the 225 and 231.

I have a '67 on a stand. The block and intake numbers are the same as you posted. The raised center section of the crankshaft is 2.490" diameter.
Thejeepsterman shows a reproduction flexplate. Sorry you're having so much trouble with this.

Thanks man. I honestly can't believe what a pain in the arse this has become.

We got one of the flex plates from Jeepsterman and it did not fit.

So, turns out my buddy threw on the transmission in order to fab the mount. I think he thought it wouldn't be that hard to get the flex plate on with the tranny installed, but as I said, he pulled the tranny once it became obvious we had an issue.

So, just curious if you know if that flex plate you posted pics of is internally or externally balanced? Thanks.

Also, that model flex plate I believe has 162 teeth, and I need 160.

When I ordered the transfer case from Advanced Adapters, they confirmed the 700r4 would work.

Any chance you remember which year Cutlass?

Does anyone know if the Dauntless had a different crankshaft for manual vs automatic?
