Norcal69 must want me to buy an AMX, he sends me potentials;) HOWEVER, I started looking at Plymouth Dusters~ I kind of like them, but they're quite costly too! But finding one with the much wanted 340 is near impossible. A 340 if one can find one, they go for big bucks! What the heck is it with a 340? Below is a link to a local Duster, but what's funny, the guy came down on the price last week, like 8k, now is back up . I could live with a 318, but could be "restoring" and keep an eye out for a 340, or something else? Just having some fun :bananatool:, shopping is therapeutic

The 318 was a pretty pedestrian 2 bbl V8. The 340 was the hot motor with better heads, cam, and 4 bbl.

If you're not looking for originality, get a 318 duster and drop a 90's vintage 360 Magnum from a truck in it. Easier to get parts for than a 340 and makes good power without much effort.

Ok. That sounds good! I’m hoping the guy will take 8000 or close.

My first car was a '72 Duster with a 318. I eventually dropped a warmed over 360 into it- Holly 750, "Purple Shaft" cam, headers- all the regular stuff :) Don't know how fast it went as the speedo stopped moving a little over 120 :(

But she was still pulling hard :D

My first three cars were Darts and a Duster. The 340's were a bit of a firecracker motor (that, or people were just hard on them). Even 30 years go if when you ran across an original 340 car it was rarely the 340 under the hood yet.

    Heck - go whole-hog and do a 440 swap...;-)

Well, I'm still looking as I'm in no hurry, but I joined Global auctions and there is a '70ish Barracuda on there starting off at 400. I'm sure the price will go up, but I'll be checking in on how the system works. I don't want to get shafted, but the Car in question was a burn victim. Didn't affect the front, nor rear, but took out a lot in between. Looking at it, looks like it'd be a great challenge and still be a total restoration. I don't know if this is going to happen, but I'm just going to play with this idea.
To see the full pictures, one has to register, no cost and there are a couple early jeeps on it too, I think.

This is a statement from the auction place, concerns me a little.
"if you have the highest eligible offer after the auction closing on our insurance Company vehicle, GLOBALAUTOAUCTIONS WILL PURSUE AND TRY TO ACQUIRE THIS VEHICLE FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY, UPON RECEIVING YOUR DEPOSIT. If the insurance company awards the vehicle, your purchase will be finalized. If we cannot acquire your vehicle, you can leave your deposit for future offers. Please keep in mind that most customers leave multiple offers which increased the odds of buying vehicles. We place bulk package offers daily to insurance companies and get turned down. Know the value of your vehicle, know whether its replaceable or not before you get upset, our inventory is endless and on very rare vehicles that cannot be easily replaced, our administration makes sure vehicles are not lost to competitors. Email info@globalautoauctions.com with any questions."

Darn, I got a call from that auction place, a fella with a very strong Indian accent called, I had a hard time understanding him and he eventually hung up on me, thought it was an accident, but never heard back:( , I'm going to get Gary to call him back!
So, I guess I'm back to the Duster, now I have the entire family here and can't do anything! grrrrr

I was able to open the pictures by right click. Sounds like a flaky operation. Engine looks heavily modified. Figure big money to restore but it would be worth a bunch.

Wow Jeepdaddy~ you must have been at the computer for a little bit to come up with that list!;) You have to remember, it takes a day just to get out of Texas! lol However, I had been looking at the earlier Barracuda, but more drawn to the 68ish Barracuda.

The Duster that I should have bought is gone:( and I'm not going to play with that Auction of the '70 Barracuda. So, back to the drawing board.

I have been watching this Javelin, even though I don't want one. It's actually a driver!

I know you all want me to get this over and start a new project, but has to be the right one;)

    Naw.
Everything there is within the scope of a single search. Craigslist has the ability to sort. Pretty simple after that to do a quick scroll. Since I don't know what the prices are like in your neck of the woods, none of these may even be realistic.

Since it sounds like you're loosing money to some foreign acquisition company, might be cheaper to find something stateside, talk to the owner, and if you make a decision, either fly or drive out to pick it up.

It also gives you an excuse to see some of the country. Oregon has incredible scenery, the politics suck, but man, a two or three day trip through the big timber country, Crater lake, or the coast, winding up with your dream project hooked to the bumper heading home, well, that might just be the "get away" you and yours could use........

Of course, you would have to go through Reno and/Las Vegas, so you still might "lose" your new car:)

I hope I don't sound wishy washy, but finding that right candidate is tough whatever make n model I choose, but I'm drawn toward either an AMX or a plymouth Barracuda or Duster.
Below is a '65 Cuda with a 360, not sure of the transmission, but it's in desperate need of my attention! lol But when I mention 6-7 hour drive to Gary, he says stick to at least only an hour away.
