Hi I am a newby needing a little help.

Which is the correct soft top bar set up? My father had what I believe was an early CJ5. Purchased in the late 50s. It had the rounded fenders. As I recall the bars were straight and not angled on the sides. I don’t care for the look of tge angled bars especially when the side curtains and doors are off, however I aim to be authentic. So which is it, or did Willys offer both the straight bars and the angled?

This is the angled. I am unable to find a pic of the straight rods but the can be found on M38s and CJ 2s and 3s

Original top had the bars vertical, using the hole in the tub rail behind the seat and the ones on the rear corners also.
Somewhere I have a pic of my '56 with the original top on it.

The m38a1 had more of what's pictured above. Google "Surry gala" and look at the bows used on them.

The photo shows something that seems to be based on the military version - which can be fitted to a CJ5.

As mentioned in post#2, the original early tops used two hoops that fit in the round sockets behind the seats and on the rear corners. These were straight-up vertical. The tops were fastened to the Jeep body by sewn-in straps along the bottom edge, buckled to footman loops on the body.
The later (early ‘60s?) tops were made by aftermarket suppliers like White/Whitco that were supplied new by Jeep, or bought as aftermarket replacements. These usually had a pair of diagonal hoops joined together by a hinge bracket bolted midway to the top of the bed side rail. These tops usually had snaps along the bottom edge to fasten the top to the body.
