That latch seem to be original on the '69 and my '71 has it too. My '68 however, showed no signs of a latch on the passeneger seat bracket. It's possible that's something they implemented in '69.

Do you know if there is any reinforcement on the undersurface of the tub where the latch plate attached? My rear seats were installed with nonfactory brackets and created a dent in my bed.

No reinforcement. Just some oval weld-on nut plate like these: https://www.amazon.com/Low-Carbon-Single-industrial-Fastener-Super-Deals-Shop/dp/B07C98QQ1P?th=1

You can see the bottom of it in this picture:

The latch itself appears to the the same part as the hood catch on the top center of the windshield. There are available:
Looks like Partsdude4x4 also has the floor bracket:
Later today, I can take a picture of what the mount for the latch looks like on the original seat frame.

The latch is a late ‘60s thing. My ‘65 and ‘66 have no provision for it, but I know of ‘68s and ‘69s with them.
Ken’s original post implies his seat is a “spring” seat, but it is not. That is a molded foam seat, as they wer introduced for the ‘66 model year.
I wholeheartedly agree is is way better to rebuild/reupholster the original seats than replace them with aftermarket versions. Its a shame that nobody reproduces a stock type seat that fits and sits lower like the originals. My comparison is you sit “in” the original seats, and sit “on” the aftermarket ones like Smittybuilt.

Here's more photos of the latch parts.

The footman loop welded to the bracket is 1" to the center line. Sorry about the blurry picture:

So for anyone considering them, the seat covers from Walcks are pretty good, original look and fit, about $300/pair. I repaired my seats with some new burlap, 1 inch foam from amazon, and some stiff perimeter wire and springs stolen from an old couch (springs had to be shortened a bit), to replace rusted, broken springs and wire frame. Ill try to attach some pics.

I have had two sets of original front and rear seats recovered. It is somewhat costly but no regrets .One set of fronts had to be striped to the springs and (removed all of bottom foam) and built up with new material. I am 6' 3" so no wiggle room for thick aftermarket seats. The prices I see others posting seem about right.I was into three seats for about $1,000.00 set + or - . The latch for the pass seat should be available somewhere.

The latch for the passenger seat on mine is the same as the hood latch on the windshield frame. NOS military surplus latches for the M38A1 come up on Ebay now and then, which is what I bought for my CJ5.

Found several on Ebay just now, here is one.

Thanks. It was red, when I sanded that off I found green, then when I sanded that off I found orange. The only orange I found for 61 was Omaha Orange. I will say the price of good auto paint is a little shocking.

Yes it is shocking. The paint my buddy wants to use on my Jeep is $385 a gallon.
