Hi I have done a bunch of research on what pedal should be on my jeep. I have the "Jeep logo on the pedal. Cannot find a picture of the backside of the pedal where the rod contacts the pedal? if someone could snap a pic of their 70 o 71 jeep that would be very helpful to me .Someone had modified the rod on mine so I am lost. Thanks in advance.. Gord.

Edited : I am also looking for what size the ball studs are for the pedal pivot. Looks like are 3/8 NF but what diameter is the ball its self. Thanks Gord.

    sawilly,
    I have a 1970 CJ5 built Oct69 and am the third owner.
It just so happens that I took it apart about 30 years ago and am very close to putting the pedal back on. I knew where it was and here are some pictures.

front of pedal with chrome mounting bracket at bottom and one of the pivot studs.

pivot points on floor pan, one missing, lower right 2 screws for chrome mounting bracket.

bottom back of pedal with pivot ball
    [IMG]

back of pedal, 2 ribs run length of pedal that the linkage rides in. the rusty spot near top is worn from the rod.

size of the ball, 0.450 max diameter,
    3/8" x 24 x 3/8" threaded post.
from mounting surface to top of the ball is 1.25"

Thankyou that is exactly what was looking for. The previous owner changed it . I now have it back to just like yours. I wanted to verify that the pedal "pin " really did just ride in the grooves on the back the pedal. Thanks again .Gord

    Sawilly, JPC,
I am searching for the same gas pedal to replace the one on my 1970 CJ5 but have been unable to locate one online. Do either of you know of a site online where I can purchase one?
Thanks in advance for you assistance,

Parts Dude 4x4 added this to their web site literally a few days ago: https://stores.partsdude4x4.net/gas-pedal/

Apparently it took them a couple of years working with suppliers and Jeep to have it be an officially licensed product.

    Nice!
Been wanting to convert my 70 from a hanging pedal to the floor mounted type. I actually found a used one (& paid way too much for it) a couple years ago but it wound up going in the Commando which had no gas pedal at all...

    Thanks for
Thanks for the information! They have the pedal I am looking for. A little pricey but no one else has them. I’m book marking that site, I’m sure I’ll be shopping there again. Again, thanks for the quick reply and info.

What is the function of that tab on the top of the pedal (rear of pedal)?

That tab is a good place for a spring to keep the pedal from flopping away from the linkage.

Agreed. That is an annoyance with the hinged pedals that don't have any retention. If you're on a steep climb the pedal wants to flop back when you take your foot off it.

Where would the spring be mounted on the opposite (body) side of the tab?

FYI: My research reveals that the tab on the back of the pedal is for the throttle linkage on an M715. I have one and I looked this past weekend. Mystery solved.

Hard to do when you need to run the clutch and brakes too!

C'mon guys, you've certainly learned how to run the gas and brake with a crooked right foot on both!
That's why it's great to have those pedals so close together. Who needs a hand brake?!!!

Next question, is the rod that mounts to the firewall the same with both types of pedals?

Not quite the same, onbthe hanging pedal the final bend is a 45 and is cross drilled for a set screw. I have a drawing somewhere for bending it but I'm forgetful.
