I'm goin to look at a transmission tomorrow with intent of putting it in the green B. Of course I hope to look inside, and my question is, Is there anything special about getting the top off it? I have never worked on one of these. I remember the SM 465 top had to be just right to come off. Anything special about the T18?
    TIA

Pulls straight up when you undo the bolts. Of course ,you need to line up the shift forks when putting it back together.

Easiest if you put in neutral first. Makes it easier to put back on too. Otherwise just unbolt and remove.

Most of you guys have had experience with the T18, is that too much gear gone for a 2500LB 3B?

Dang! Can you imagine the hideous grinding noise that driver must have endured...regularly?!!!
Try to talk him down on price.
Anyway, with the lighter vehicle, you could probably get away with using it. Make sure you get all the shavings out of the case and replace the bearings, synchronizers and nylon pads on the shift rails.

Pull the front bearing cover, inspect the bearing as this is normally the first one to go.

    Definately Change that reverse idler.
Some idlers use needle bearings while others use bronze bushings. You should be able to mix match Ford, Jeep and IH reverse gears so long as the gear tooth count is correct.

    Still working on this.
I'm still using stock floor pedals, with the AA chain linkage setup on my 3B. Has anyone used this setup with the Ford T18?? I'm just trying to make sure about clearance before I drop the $$$ on this upgrade.
Novak couldn't give me an answer.
    TIA

I’m not running that particular set up but I have dry fitted the Buschert chain control to a T18 with standard floor pedal pivot system,
It’s an easy fit. But you may have to tinker with the
    Buschert bracket angle.
I decided it was just as easy to fabricate a chain control for an exact fit because the Buschert control is so very simple anyway.
About all you need is a chain, a sprocket and some fabrication skill.
That said I decided to keep mine as factory as possible and used a factory clutch release cable.

As the Novak parts start to show up, I'm tearing down the T18.
The 1st pic is the empty case. Look at all that metal gunk in the bottom!:(
    upload_2022-9-8_19-16-40.png
Yea, there is a magnet glued to the bottom
Not a good pic, but this bearing inner race shows where some of the gunk came from.

I'll bet this puppy was noisy.
Its getting a rebuild, including the rev gear.
