    @BMoney ,
Looking good, couple of questions for you. Is that an after market/repro timing cover? Looks a lot like the one I bought from rockauto, and I am less than pleased with it.
I’ll be posting my results in the “what did you do “ thread.

It is the ATP timing cover from Rock Auto. I have the stock timing cover as well but with the way this engine has been, original parts have been hit and miss in regards to quality.

    Cool, glad you’re in business!
Let me know what you do with your distributor hold down when you get there, or if I get there first, I’ll let you know.

So yesterday afforded me some time to work on the old CJ5 and I was able to install my headers, water pump, radiator (going to have to swap to electric fans for clearance), radiator hoses, alternator and fan pully as well as put the windshield frame and hinges back on the Jeep. All in all a really good day and I am excited to continue on with the project. Just waiting on my DUI distributor and LiveWire plugs and then I am going to be closing the engine bay for a while and focusing my attention on the interior of the Jeep. Spray in bed liner, Speedhut gauges and a new dash are all sitting in the garage waiting patiently to be installed. Here are some photos for an update (missing the install of the radiator hoses as it got too dark).

So this weekend was filled with a good amount of both family time and Jeep building time. Ended up finishing the Spray in Raptor Liner Bedliner, Installed by new Steering Wheel and Dash and cleaned up a few loose ends. Next weekend will not give me much time to work on Poppy (the Jeep) but next up is electrical using a Painless wiring kit and then Fuel Lines after that.

Anyone have any tips/tricks for the painless wiring kit?

The raptorliner came out looking really good.

The painless harness installation manual is very good and i recommend reading it a few times and take plenty of notes. The harness is pre bundled into sections, you are will need to relocate some wires into different sections for your needs. It helps to lay the harness out on the floor and sort the wires how you need them before putting the harness in the jeep.

I'm late to the party, but like your build, so going to watch your progress. I've done a ton of jeep builds for myself and others, and always enjoy myself. My CJ2a truck conversion was my most ambitious build, so this one is unlikely to be sold.

    Have fun...

So this past weekend I got a little time to work on my build but more importantly my daughters got to help and get their hands dirty. Worked on putting in the seats as well as mounted the rest of the gauges in the dash. Next weekend I will be wiring the dash and hopefully running the fuel lines from the tank under the seat to the engine. Getting closer and closer to turning over the engine which is exciting.

Speedhut Water Temp, Oil Pressure and Voltage Gauge (Didn't get a photo with the Speedhut Speedometer in the Dash but it is there)

My daughters Harper (driving) and Nora (backseat) enjoying the fruits of their labor for the day.

This photo has been a long time coming, seats are finally back in

Today was a monumental day. Finally got the engine running! Now I gotta wrap up the brakes and bleed them and finish the front suspension/steering components and replace the fluids in the differentials and the transmission and then she will be ready for a drive down the street! So super excited.

Well the time finally has come and I was able to get my CJ up and running and driving. Took her up and down the street a few times. A couple things still to finish but at least I can move her out of the driveway under power now!

Excited to get it finished and start enjoying some weekend rides.

Yep, 6’2” and 260ish lbs, fit comfortably in it and it does not have the rear fenderwell notched.

Gotta be somewhat big in order to turn those big old tires without power steering!

So after 2 attempts to get this thing registered at AAA I can now say I can legally drive my Jeep on the roads here in CA. Some things to note for those that don't already about transferring title of an out of state early CJ.

1st - Make sure you have your emissions sticker somewhere in the engine bay. AAA will check for that sticker on any vehicle that is 1968 or newer. I found a reproduction on ebay for $6 from JeepsterGuru (https://www.jeepsterguru.com/1969-emissions-sticker/)

2nd - If you are installing a new speedometer/odometer, make sure it has over 7,500 miles on it. California requires that any car with less than 7,500 miles on it that was not designed to be sold in California to comply with California emissions standards, even if you are a pre 1975 vehicle exempt from smog testing. I luckily had a Speedhut Speedometer installed and I was able to program the odometer to read the miles that were reported on the previous owners title (80,146) in order to not need to comply.

3rd - Be prepared to pay sales tax unless you wait 1 year from your purchase date to have the vehicle enter California.

4th - If using AAA make sure you have cash, check or a credit card to pay your registration. You cannot use a debit card to pay for your DMV fees at AAA.

Hope this helps someone out there not have to go through the same stuff I did!

I registered my 69 at AAA to and they never even looked at the jeep. Luckily it was already transferred to CA when i got it, i think it was originally from montana. And i got it tax free by saying my uncle gifted it to me.

This weekend was full of work on the CJ. I got the new front leaf springs on as well as the new shock plates and hardware. I then quickly realized how bad the alignment was and tried to fix it enough to limp it down the road for an alignment. But one thing that I have been meaning to do that finally got completed was cleaning up the hubs. They were caked in mud and grease and painted white (kind of). See the before and after pictures below:

    Before

    After

Gave the drums a nice coat of black paint as well. The cleanup trick for me on the hubs was WD-40 Industrial Strength Degreaser along with a brass wire wheel on a cordless drill. It worked great and made quick work of it, including the old paint.

Now the plan is to take these old M2 Warn Hubs off and rebuild them to get them working as right now they are in a bind in "Free".

On a bad note, once I got the alignment done I went to go for a little shakedown with all of the new suspension parts (leaf springs, shock plates, front shackles, u-bolts and shocks) and only about 0.1 miles from the house I heard a loud snap as I pushed down on the clutch. I ended up breaking part of the clutch linkage.

Oh well, on to the next project. At least we are at the point now where the Jeep tells me what it wants fixed next haha!
