Hello all, my engine 1972 360. Did the harmonic balancer come with a sleeve where it contacts the timing cover seal?
I am pulling parts off the engine and cleaning/painting while it's on the stand. I noticed a sleeve on the harmonic balancer. I am guessing it was to help control an oil leak from the seal, however I read somewhere that some folks thought it came with a sleeve originally. It may have been a different make of engine, I can't find that info now.
Mine has a slight groove worn into it so it's either going to get replaced or just removed altogether since I am putting a new seal in the cover anyway. I looked through the TSM but they didn't really address it. Thanks.

Thanks, I figured you would know, always good info.
The one I read about was some model of Ford, I think. Now I have to figure out how to get the old one off. Might try the heat and cool method (cold balancer, heat up sleeve) before I do micro-surgery with a dremel.

Every 304 or 360 I have has no speedy sleeve. I remove them with a 4 1/2” angle grinder, lightly grinding most of the way through the sleeve.

I got it off. I heated it up a little bit with a torch while spinning it around and it pried right off with some small pry bars. The balancer looks to be in good shape. I think it was put on there just to control a seal leak. Thanks.
