I have a 1965 cj5 with a 44 rear end. I would like to install an air locker but need it to be 30 spline not the current 19. Is there any aftermarket shafts I can buy to switch this or do I have to find a stock set of flanged shafts? Thanks in advance

Herm the Overdrive Guy has 30 spline full float kits that would get that done. I don't think the 19 and 30 spline side gears directly interchange but you could replace the carrier and get there. The axle shafts would be your next problem there as I'm pretty sure you would need the relatively rare flanged axle housing to make stock Jeep axles work.

Herm's kit is ok to get to 30 spline but it doesn't really offer much in increased strength over the 19 spline due to the axle shaft design. As any full float, it does keep the wheels on and the brakes intact if you break a shaft.

I had to do the FF set up just to get my Detroit Locker to work. I hold the title of having the last Warn FF kit in my 44.

I was trying to avoid doing the full float kit. I was hoping there was some aftermarket flange axle out there to buy

Moser or Dutchman will make you about anything you want. The price will not be significantly different than Herm's kit. And you will have to supply all the specs.

If I really wanted flanged axles, I'd search for a '70-71 CJ rear axle. This will be flanged, 30 spline, and offset for the Dana 18. You could also use a '72-75 CJ rear axle and switch to the Dana 20 transfer case. Also a 30-spline Dana 44 and flanged, but centered.

Even at the premium price you'd likely pay for the scarce '70-71 axle, suspect it will cost less than a custom solution. You might find one of these offset axles cheap, but it will require a naive seller.

Suggest there is no room in the aftermarket for the axles that you imagine, given the limited market and number of alternatives.

One possibility for axle shafts might be getting a pair of Willys wagon or the "wide tread" FC 150 shafts shortened and re-splined to 30 spline. I have not measured the inner diameter of those to see if there is enough for the larger diameter 30 spline but there is a set laying in the shop. Those would still have the stock outer configuration for the wheel bearing/seal and the keyed hub. No doubt way cheaper than full custom shafts but also weaker. I know Moser will re-spline and probably Dutchman too.

In the end, it is still way less hassle to find a 70-71 complete flanged axle or do Herm's kit. But even if you do find one of the 70-71 axles, you may spend another $1000 getting it regeared to match the front unless you can set up the gearing yourself. Something to think about when looking for that axle. I think most of those are 3.73 geared from the factory.
