I'm working on rebuilding an old Odd fire and can't find any timing mark on the dampener or a pointer on the front cover. How do time this thing?

225 oddfires had a slot on the balancer and a timing marks cast into the cover.
231's had the timing marks bolt on to the cover.
The covers are interchangeable so it is possible yours is the later cover with the marks gone.

That must be what this one is for. The cover has 3 holes to take the bolts and the dowel pin.

That is the pointer. I think that style is used on 231 and aftermarket 225 timing covers. The balancer should have a grove machined into the outside edge.

This is what I suspect happened to mine. My pointer was WAAAYYY out from top dead center compared to groove on balancer. I made a new groove and all is well.
