I also mounted my brake pedal to the left of the column. It seems weird, but my feet like it in that position.

I mounted mine the same way, even though my setup isn't finished yet. I hate how the column sits to the right of my seating position though, and I want to move it to just above where the clutch pedal goes through the floor. On my build it seems like a natural, centered location for the wheel.

The jury is out for sure. I just got the set up today and really it felt right for me. I know that the typical way is to run the column through the middle of the peddles but the gas peddle in reference to the brake peddle bothered me.

I found one off a 68 Buick lesabre with a 350. Fit perfect and got the pump up out of the fender well. Thanks again for the quick eye!

Its been about 5 months since my last post and I have made some progress in the right direction. I finished all the fab work and installation of Herm's ford reverse power steering set up. I also started the rough assembly of all the completed body parts. I just fell like a rough assembly of all parts and pieces while it is in primer is the correct way to go. Especially with how much automotive paint has gone up. I also had a friend of mine build me new oem style rear seat brackets and I found a brand new rugged ridge rear seat on Craigslist for $100. I took apart the seat welded in a mount to match the oem brackets. It came out perfect. 139 rough assembly.jpg 140 rough assembly.jpg 141 rough assembly.jpg 142 rough assembly .jpg 143 Steering wheel installed.jpg 144 steering column .jpg 145 steering intermediate shaft.jpg 146 steering box to Intermediate shaft.jpg 147 steering box to intermediate shaft.jpg 148 steering box to intermediate shaft.jpg 139 rough assembly.jpg 140 rough assembly.jpg 141 rough assembly.jpg 142 rough assembly .jpg 143 Steering wheel installed.jpg 144 steering column .jpg 145 steering intermediate shaft.jpg 146 steering box to Intermediate shaft.jpg 147 steering box to intermediate shaft.jpg 148 steering box to intermediate shaft.jpg

What color are you going to use?

I like your brake and clutch setup. What parts are those?

mahindra roxor, I bought it from one of the other members on here. I have selected a mint green metallic that was popular on Mercurys and Lincolns in the 1960's. Here is a picture of the colors I narrowed it down to. Its the middle one that I am leaning towards. 161 paint options.jpg

*Update* I recently purchased one the MD Juan reproduction windshield frames and I must say it went in very nicely. All the holes lined up to the stock hinge brackets and it fit perfectly, these have gotten a lot better in recent years. I really wanted to save my original frame but the cancer was just too bad not too consider the $270 repop. The upper hinge brackets were an absolute nightmare to get out of the original but I eventually got it. So the new windshield frame is in I have just a few more things to do before I tear everything down and paint it. Oh and I decided to get rid of the bus driver steering wheel as well. I think the grant steering wheel looks better, I know, I know it's not original but this whole is a resto-mod project anyway. Anyways, I still need to weld up the exhaust and get the hangers in the right spots, The radiator needs to be installed, the E-brake mechanism and cable needs to be installed, and finally the dimmer switch since I know I will need to drill a new hole in the new sheet metal. Now for some pics, enjoy! 162 rough assembly.jpg 162 rough assembly.jpg 163 rough assembly.jpg

One other thing I had to do was modify the front left inner fender to make room for the new shock tower and the headers. I also filled in the spot where the OEM shock mount was, you guys can laugh all you want but I will be the first to admit that I suck at welding 22 gauge sheet metal. But I was persistent and I think it didn't come out too bad.

Not laughing, that patch looks great. The whole darn build looks great (y)

Is that the stock steering column? I love the look of the piece where it goes thru the floor. What part is that? Who makes it?

The steering column and steering shaft is stock but highly modified, this is Herm the Overdrive Guy's reverse ford power steering gear set up. This requires you to cut the worm gear off of the steering shaft and shorten it, the parts are from Borgeson and very high quality. Basically this set up is an alternative to a typical GM/Saginaw power steering approach. The power steering gear is out of a 1985 Ford Ranger. This allows you to put the steering box behind the front cross member.

Hello everyone, Sorry I have been gone for awhile. I've been going through a divorce and I'm now at the end of it, so a little preoccupied. None the less the Jeep project continues on. I have done quite a bit while it has been in primer. and honestly I am just about at the point where I am ready to completely disassemble it again and take it to paint. That will be a huge step in what has turned into a long almost 3 year process. And here are the pics! enjoy! What I have done lately: New tires and the old rims were sand blasted and powder coated in Jeep champagne white, New aluminum 3 core radiator by champion radiators, Exhaust has been completed although Im going to need custom made tips, to get the exit angle correct. I got the dash all figured out with the switches where they need to go, ready for paint. The parking brake has been installed and is functional. The glove box lid has been painted with the color that the jeep will be painted. Dash.jpg

I hope you got to keep a bass boat also.

The seats look amazing! Which champion radiator did you get? It looks a little narrower than a stock, but it would solve an interference problem I have with my steering.

    Keep up the good work!

So yes this champion radiator is for a late 60's dauntless CJ5. It's technically not correct for my '71, but since I used Herm's Ford reverse steering gear set up, the original radiator would not clearance the the steering box location. So I modified the the mounting position and put in the earlier model radiator since they are narrower. It's a solution to that clearance issue, also the petcock drain is on the opposite side, again something else that would have been and issue with the stock radiator. One other issue that in theory would be a problem, is the cooling efficiency would be reduced with a 2 core radiator that is narrower, so I opted for the three core. I was always going to run an electric fan but I found neither an electric fan or the stock mounted fan will clearance the radiators position. So I have purchased a nice high flow pusher fan that I will mount to the inside of the grill. I know some wont like that since its so different that what was original but this is a resto-mod so I'm ok with it.

Man your work is amazing. I like the attention to detail. Mine jeep project took me 4 years to complete. Oh that's right I'm still working on it.
