    Howdy,

I need to replace front and rear springs on my CJ, and have been unsuccessful in locating the exact leaf count of what I took off.
    rears- 5leafs
    Front- 10 leafs

I plan to keep the Jeep at the stock height would consider an extra 1” or 2”. Or should I take them to a spring shop and have them rebuilt? Thoughts are appreciated.

    Phil

This has been covered a lot in old posts. Use an online search engine and vary the terms - you'll find a lot of discussion.

Why do you care about the leaf count? Many different leaf counts were used by Jeep over the years. If you have the 5-leaf rear springs with the two thick "overload" leaves, those should be original. This would indicate the standard suspension package to me. Jeep also offered "heavy duty suspension," one of the handful of "heavy duty" options, which would have a higher GVWR and should have a higher rear leaf count. Leaf count in the front varies a lot. If you purchase the factory parts book that covers your Jeep (Faxon), the available springs should be listed.

I would not spend any money to get springs rebuilt. Not worth it. The metal is already beat. I like my BDS 2 1/2" lift springs. Been good to me so far and ride well once broken in.

My experience with re-arched springs is that they quickly revert to their prior state. Another that thinks it is a waste of time and/or money.
