I came over to the Jeep thing about 2 years ago when I decided to cell my little sports car. I had 2002 BMW Z3. I wanted a CJ and was prepared to travel to pick it up. The search was on, and went on for a while. Miraculously, I located one about an hour away. It had 44,000 miles on it and in really good shape. Hurricane engine that ran pretty well but lacked power - vacuum leaks, new plugs, wires and all the rest of those type things. So I've been driving this thing in the woods and around town. Amazing how many people comment on it.
It all started last fall with a simple suspension update, leaf springs etc. Well that exploded into more on a rebuild.

OK - adding pictures in here is not very intuitive - working on it...

For most of it's life it lived on a horse boarding house in East Kingston NH bringing in hay from the field. The PO kept in out of the weather and did a good job maintaining it. The first thing I did was rebuild the brakes. Bring it to a stop was sketchy. Changed all the fluids, had the starter generator and regulator rebuilt and added an over sized winch. My worst fear is getting stuck in middle of nowhere during mud season.

I started the tear down last fall.

Tub was in decent shape, some newer panels had bee welded in. The worst of the rust was over the passenger wheel well.

I didn't have any help removing the tub, so I improvised by using a come along for lift. Somewhat risky, but I let it sit on the lift for a while to make sure it was safe. Then brought it up very slow.
Rolled the frame out from under, and rolled the trailer in

Good thing the tub isn't really very heavy

Took a while to find someone to sandblast the body parts. Many of them were booked out months in advance. Finally found a guy to do it up in Hampstead NH. Cost was $1200, but that included a coating of zinc to prevent flash rust, which I needed because finding a painter was tough too. I thought about painting it myself but decided not to.

There is enough to do repainting the frame.
Went to HF and bought one of their middle of the road sandblasters, and glass media. Blasting the frame was not fun - what a mess. My compressor had a hard time keeping up. Just had to invest the time waiting for it. In the end I got it done. I'll use Chassis Saver.

Applied the first coat of paint on the frame. Not a big fan of painting, but I like the result.

Second coat goes on next weekend. To bad I have to go to work to pay for all of this...I'd rather be workin' on the Jeep:bananatool:

Kind of a pain getting into the small crevices.
Oh lesson learned, when it's time to take a break and go behind the garage for "relief", always take those paint cover nitrile gloves off!

Got a call from my painter, says he's ready to start work. I'm torn between Parkway Green and Spruce Tip Green. Any thoughts/suggestions?
