    Hello Everyone,
I've been gathering parts to fabricate a rear mounted auger. I like the set up as shown in the link below. Does anyone have experience (or even a wild idea) on how the rig (or derrick?) is attached to the hinge/frame? Any suggestions either factual or crazy are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gene

Try looking at the Farmjeep website?

    PS - a "CJ4 Wrangler?" That's a mighty rare creature.

What's a C4 Wrangler? Does it blow up a lot?

    My bad - I misread that as a CJ-4.

Barry from FarmJeep.com. I'm blown away by this rig. It appears to be mounted in the bed and I couldn't see the size or placement of the hydraulic pump. I wonder if this a one-off or if there is a company that fabricates these. I saw the the title and assumed a 3PT auger. Not sure what the OP needs, but this is clearly an industrial strength auger.

We had an article some years back about building a Farm jeep out of a Wrangler - https://www.farmjeep.com/2016/11/05/can-i-build-a-farm-jeep-using-my-wrangler/ I might change my mind after seeing this. The major hold up for me was the addition of a PTO. Those are available today (not sure of the cost)

Sorry I can't offer more help.

I have a '70 CJ with PTO so hydraulics are not a head scratcher for me. What is the head scratcher is a way to attach the rig to the frame. This idea and project is all one-off. Thanks

OK, so are you looking for a Farm Jeep type of setup - like a Monroe Lift and a standard 3PT post hole digger (PhD in tractor terms)? Or an industrial rig like the link? The Monroe installation instructions might give you some clues as to how they mounted the lift - https://www.farmjeep.com/monroe-lift-installation-instructions/

Is your '70 an early one with the inside mounted fuel tank? My '70 parts jeep had a rear tank. I would love to figure out a pto for it.

In response to your question about a 3pt hitch type auger, there was a thread a while back where someone fabricated a mount that hooked to a trailer hitch.

    Here's a few:

Thanks everyone in your interest. I'll need an industrial type application, like what's shown in my link. I have a mast from a forklift that I plan to use as the drill rig. All I need is to figure out how to attach it to the frame. I am thinking about having the mast (or drill) tilt toward the front of the vehicle by about 30 degrees while in transit (will be towed) then tilt the mast forward (towards the rear of the vehicle) so its vertical for drilling (similar to a fork lift). Thanks, again. Keep your ideas coming!

    A) I'm thinking it would be better if it could go lower than that.

    B) Unless you live in real flat country, it would be useful to have it tilt in all directions when boring on a sloped site.

Maybe check out the mount systems for tractor-mounted fencepost pounders. In fact, pounded posts are said to be more secure.
