No dice on the drag link flip, it doesn't bend in correct orientation and hits the exhaust pipe.

Drag link should be here this week. Hopefully it helps clearance a little bit. Test fit the windshield so we could drill the hinge holes and put threaded inserts into the cowl that was reinforced with wood. Of the 4 bolts on each hinge, only one will be able to be through-bolted. Also came up with a brass bulkhead fitting to pass the fuel line through the floor under the drivers tank. The floor is so thick now I had to recess this into the flooring a bit in order to get the nut on the other side.

Got the drag link installed, no longer hitting the bell housing! had to finesse the exhaust a little bit but all is well now. I was driving myself crazy with the drag link rebuild parts until I finally read on this wonderful forum that the end plugs dont have the slots cut deep enough for the pin to lock them in place. Also got the inserts installed for the interior windshield hold downs. Slow progress this week.

Added some 1/4 rubber under the body mounts to help with any little vibrations.
With the increased body height we have to bend the clutch & brake pedals. After that we need to figure out our gas pedal situation.
Got the steering box and column installed and all that looks like it should work well now.
Added some big 5/16" threaded inserts behind the windshield hinges and got those epoxied in place to keep the moisture out of the glass & wood.
After doing some test fitting we're going to have to rework the angles for the driver's side seat bracket. just some cutting & welding to get that in place.

I was doing some reading about the HEI upgrade and others have suggested that thermal paste be added to the ignition module in the distributor. Anyone have a photo or instructions on where that actually goes?

Boating season arrived shortly after my last post so not a lot of time has been spent on the Jeep. We did have the gelcoat sanded and polished so now its got a pretty decent shine to it. I also started cleaning up the aluminum wheels. Anyone have a 5th one? I think theyre "Keystone Vortex Lite" but I might ahve to get a "American Racing AR62 Outlaw II" which looks similar. We got the rollbar back from paint, the windshield & hood hinges back from powder coating, and we're dropping off the recently painted windshield frame & glass to the glass shop for new seals.

I was away for a while so the CJ's been in the back of the garage (last pic) and slightly unaccessible, but hopefully in the coming weeks we will be able to start installing some parts.

The paste goes between the metallic underside of the ignition module and the aluminum base of the distributor.

Interesting build, just keep at it.

Windshield frame got painted & new rubber installed.
    Hung the taillights, side mirrors.
Installed the Bestop last night. Used a combination of lag bolts & threaded inserts into the wood backing in the fiberglass. Sealed with 2 part epoxy. Still need to hang the doors, but happy to have that large box out of my basement.

Slowly making progress, a few more odds and ends to tidy up but hopefully start wiring in the coming months.

it’s kind of funny... Thousands of dollars later and it doesn’t look much different than it did when we rolled it out of the garage in 2016. Just a little cleaner lol

New Bestop owners, did you trim this upper half door weather stripping? Seems extra long…

Got the "garage wheels" as I call them, painted. Not sure why we had six but at least we have a few extras. The jeep wont clear the door to the garage with the bigger wheels & tires. Ended up getting 5 matching used tires too. I mounted the rear bumper and tire hoop back on to it, Ill snap a pic of that later.

Half the parts for this are at my house, and half are at my dad's house. We're trying to consolidate and get things mounted up so they can at least be in the same place and then we will sell or junk the extra stuff we dont need.

"big" things to do soon are install the wiring harness & figure out a battery box set up. My dad doesn't want it mounted to the fiberglass firewall which would be the easiest thing, so it might have to go back on the frame rail.

The previous owner of this engine had a threaded nipple welded to the water pump, I presume for some braided lines. We didnt want to cut the nipple off, but also weren't sure what size AN fitting it was, so I printed a few AN plugs up and determined it to be a size 10. Found a nice 90 degree fitting for it.

We also started wiring, didn't get past the starter due to time constraints and an extremely confusing set of instructions from Southwest Performance. Hoping to get a little farther this weekend.

We've been jumping around a little bit, but we wired up the tail lights & trailer plug (if we decide to mount a hitch) and also wired up the headlights & front turn signals. Went to hook up the alternator and realized it was externally regulated so we switched it out for an internally regulated delco unit. Hooked up all the heater lines and filled her up with some coolant. Need to add in the overflow bottle still. Got a small leak from the inline control valve, so might have to pull that out and rebuild it or replace it. Ordered a hi/low beam foot switch but got sent a push button starter switch instead, so still waiting on that to come in. Once the lights & engine wiring are done we'll move into getting things situated under the dashboard.

Ive been on the road a little bit over the last 4 weeks. So progress had been delayed. But I got to work at Hagerty's Amelia Island Concours show, so that was pretty neat.

Fired it up yesterday for the first time in over a year. Had some minor coolant leaks at the ford heater & the top inlet of the radiator but a few extra cranks on the hose clamps fixed that. Thanks to the AMP indicator, we found out the 10SI alternator wasn't putting out power. Not surprising since it came out of a junk yard car. Tried to excite it but it wouldnt start up so we ended up pulling it apart. Very dirty inside, but after a some cleaning we were able to get it going and it was pushing 14.5v with no issues.

For my future reference, or anyone else looking to energize/excite a 10SI, its super easy. Clip a jumper wire onto the battery post on the back of the alternator, and while the engine is running & alternator is spinning, briefly tap the jumper wire to the #1 terminal plug on the top of the alternator, if it makes a spark you should be good.

We also weren't getting any reading on the temp gauge. The post on the back of the speedo is 'pulsing' as it should, so I know the voltage regulator is working properly. I'm hoping its just the temp sender switch. Granted it was only idling, but the most I saw was 150*F at the heads with my infrared temp gun. Also adjust the electric fan pretty low & got it to kick over. It wasn't getting a good ground through the radiator.

Still have a long way to go, but at least now I can go out to the garage, fire it up and listen to it rumble

Got the new temp sender installed and it’s reading on the gauge, so that’s good news. Mounted the coolant reservoir on the inside of the fender and buttoned up some more wiring.

Finally ordered some 2” gauges for the dash. Went with a tach and an oil pressure. I think they will match the black & orange look close enough.

Started working on a throttle linkage but have to do a little more finagling to get the full throw.

Next up is to tie in the spartan turn signal and figure out where to mount a battery.
