This is what I have. It appears to be what The Jeepster Man and Kaiser Willys sell. It's about 3/4" thick. It is much better than the Haynes/Chiltons offering but through a few questions I have asked it is lacking. Where would you buy the "real" deal? I am striking out searching. Electronic would be OK but I'd prefer a book. Thanks

Agree that is the real deal. What is the copyright date on yours?

I’ve got a reproduction of that. While useful, the photos and diagrams are sometimes hard to read because of the number of times they have been copied.

I wonder how they get away with posting that on the web? Figured it was copyrighted and it was a no no to post things like that

It is the same as mine that I got from my dealer when I bought my Jeep in 1971 issued by "Jeep Corp." It is the same as pre 71 FSM that I can tell other then in the beginning of the book AMC changed where Kaiser name was to Jeep Corp. and I suspect that some emission data was up dated from older FSM.

What kind of questions do you have that aren't addressed in the FSM? Moses Ludel has a good rebuilders guide along with good descriptions of common upgrades etc....

I find I use both the fsm and ludel's book along with this site to get stuff done.

Wiring mainly so far. The diagram has no colors. Also no heater wiring, seemed like an other common option too. I am about done with the harness install so this will be less of an issue. I will hope that the rest of the manual will be fine. I don't care to ask questions but I know most of the time these have been asked 1000x before. Thanks for the help

Possible it's your expectations that don't align with the manual. These books were written as a reference to tell you specific facts related to that vehicle. Their audience was the dealership mechanics, not the customers. These books won't teach you to be a mechanic.

I've never seen a factory manual with a color wiring diagram - maybe they exist, but not in the Jeep books that I've seen. Color-coded, but not color. I suspect these early vehicles had such simple wiring schemes that color-coded schemes were judged not needed. If you want a color-coded schematic, suggest you employ your local photocopier to blow up the existing diagram to larger size, buy a package of colored pencils and color the wires based on what you see in your Jeep. This is what I did to figure out wiring when I was a teenager - it will help you learn the circuits too.

The 1972 manual goes way beyond this standard with a pictorial diagram of the wiring in all the model Jeeps. Example: https://oljeep.com/gw/elec/72/72wire258.JPG If you want this, you may be able to find it online, or the '72 manual is inexpensive from RockAuto. The '74 manual here https://oljeep.com/edge_parts_man.html goes back the the more familiar schematic, and the '74 schemo has a lot of shared circuits with a '71 or earlier. Might be helpful to trace out some of these circuits and understand them.

Kinda suspect Kaiser-Jeep was not well capitalized and did not spend anything extra on niceties like detailed manual revisions. And AMC was busy with the '72-era update, and would not have much reason to provide detail for the '70 and '71 models. I believe there were service bulletins (SBs) that were published in those days, providing updates to the manual that covered year-to-year changes. Maybe those exist somewhere. You may be helped by a Motor's or similar manual for the year in question. I expect Jeeps would be included in the truck version of these books. The Motor's and similar were meant for gas stations and independent garages, and covered common mechanical service of all types of cars from that year. Again, they won't teach you to be a professional mechanic.

Regarding the heater, I think that figuring that out would be easy for the dealership mechanic. A kit to retrofit a heater would have included instructions, or they could look at other cars on the lot and copy that. There may be a SB that covers controls for that heater, but the heater itself is shown (accurately?) in section U.

I had a FSM for my 73. I really just wanted to be sure I had the best resource. Thanks

Just a comment so you are aware - I would be surprised if the heater motor for your '73 is not wired the same as your '71. Heater housing and air controls look different, but the motor is still 2-speed using a 3-position switch with the same number of wires, and probably looks similar.
