If only these early cj's could talk. I would love to learn more about my renegade and the original owner and how it was used, etc. Sadly the owner and his daughter are deceased so no trail to follow. One can only imagine and wonder while picturing them driving around back in the 70's.
From the condition and the way it survived he most have been very proud of it and treated it with great care.

I was under the impression they stopped making Renegade Is to make Renegade IIs. I thought the '71 model year Renegade Is had build dates in the early '71 model year but were actually made September to December '70?

My Ren II has a March '71 build date but is almost 600 units after yours. Are you positive that's the build date? I didn't think Jeep cranked out 600 CJ-5s in a month back then?

My RII has a build date of May with Ser # 375285, which is 2100 units after the Mar. ser # 373185. For whatever that is worth.

To answer earlier question, yes the frame, vin tag and dash tag match.

Here is some more weird stuff to go along with everything else.... According to what I am seeing the block would be from 1972?

Casting on the Block psgr side under exhaust manifold = "DUH 002 R" with spaces in between, which from what I can tell is "D"=Domestic "U"=1972? and "H"=9-1 compression "002"= julian date which would be 2nd day of the year and no idea on the "R"

Casting on the rear of intake manifold is "1378704 E"

Casting #'s just behind the Carb on intake is "2 11S or 115 or 113 ? cant tell without pulling carb off

I don't know how Jeep coded any Buick motors after '71, but Buick coded all '72 motors with a W as noted here. 1962-75 Buick Engine Codes.

Maybe Jeep used U on any replacement motors they made after the '71 model year?

Of course the heep I bought has to be shrouded in mystery.... Grrrrrrrrr I spent several hours last night trying to find my production stamp codes of DUH 002 R to no avail. I guess I will just have to keep tearing the heep down so that I can access all of the casting numbers etc... The below find does nothing to help understand the DUH stamp on my block.

I found this on Team Buick's Forum
"See attached page from the '74 Chilton repair manual Jeep chapter. This shows the 1967-71 Buick/Jeep V6 codes."

To update... just found this thread.. Thanks for all the great info... I'm the new caretaker of NCRenII's Bumblebee! 71 Ren II s/n 8305037 373069 build date mar71. Plan is to preserve and keep original. Now that it's in PA I must figure out how to keep it from rusting! (It will be garage kept and never driven in the salt!!)
