I donno anything about these style lugs nuts.. I'll say that outright... Please know that when offering your expert opinion..

I came across a set of 5 on 5 1/2 15x9ish western turbine style wheels For dirt friggen cheep. They have some dry rotted 33 x 12:50 15's on them that i will swap for some new 33 x12:50 15's... I have always wanted a set of these for my intermediate cj5 to cj6 conversion stretch since seeing my uncles 74 cj5 with a set of western turbines in the early 80s....

They use a Mag lug nut style lug nut with a washer... I have always wanted a set and I jumped on them. They match the bolt pattern of my 1973 cj5 to cj6 conversion and I want to use them.

They didn't come with any lug nuts. Am I wrong to assume I just need to get 1/2-20 mag nuts with washers that do not bottom out against the axle flange? The wheel flange thickness on the actual wheel seems to be 1" measured with a pair of calipers... Would 3/4 shank mag lug nuts do the job? If not what length shank do i need to make them work?

Please lend you expertise... as I am not well versed on straight shank lug nuts..

Thank you kindly for the help.

I know that they're referred to as " Cragar " style . Depending on the wheel , you would use Centered or Off set washers. Are there any Series #'s on the wheels?

I believe they are 'shoulder lug nuts' and I don't know much about them... are there two types... flush & conical ? The flush might require the washers... do the conical ?
I believe you are correct in that you want the shoulder shorter than the wheel thickness and probably 3/4" if possible with a shoulder OD barely smaller than the holes in the wheels.
If you can find the wheel manuf. and get in touch with them to verify the size & get their input that might be the best or at least a manuf. of this type of lug nut to ask Q.s of.

My suggestion: take the wheels, preferably with the rig they’re going on, to your friendly local reputable tire shop. They’ll order the exact correct lug nuts if they’re not in stock.

Back in the 80's I worked in an old school speed shop, and sold LOTS of mag lug nuts.
You're correct that you want the shank of the nut to go through the wheel, but not all the way...if they did, the nuts would tighten against the hub before the wheel got tight. Make sure the lug nuts are snug in the holes, and the washers fit the recess in the wheels.

Thanks all. You guys got me squared away. I hopefully have the right ones on the way. It has centered washers. It seems the Bolt circle was indeed 5 on 5.5 but with mag lugs.

Stoked to get them.. Wife even likes them! That's a plus!

I had the same question when I changed my wheels from old steel wheels over to aluminum slotted mags. The thickness of the wheel hub center was 1 inch. I thought I was going to have to change all the wheel studs because I could only get about 8-10 turns on the lug nuts. Apparently that's a little too short. After I found these I was able to get almost double the amount of threads to bite on to. I feel much better about it now. I did put them in the holes on the wheels before mounting and they didn't stick out more than the wheel on the hub side, Hope this helps.
