Got engine running after head gasket replacement. Noticed that my new clutch cable needs to be adjusted in. When I turn the cable it springs back. Is there a trick to it? Cable already connected to fork and to pedal. Also seems I’m missing a jam nut?

You guys have been great through this restoration. One more and she’ll make her maiden voyage!

disconnect the clevis from the yoke, and turn the yoke while holding the cable steady.

I believe there should be a jam nut, but I’m not sure the thread size.

Thanks I’ll do that. Turning the yoke will shorten the overall length of the cable and yoke. How do I reattach the yoke at the clevis? Do I need to pry up the throw out bearing?

Well the cable should have a ball end on it as it sits into the t/o fork.
So you should be able to rotate the cable to make this happen.
But it always doesn't work that way.
You may have to be firmer on your trying to rotate the cable.

You shouldn’t have to. There should be about 3/4 inch of play on your clutch pedal, so you should be able to reattach the yoke without having to force/pry anything.

you can also try what jpflat2a suggested - leave the yoke attached and turn the whole cable making sure the ball on the other side of the cable rotates in the fork so it doesn’t create tension and unthread itself from the yoke.

Thanks for the advice. I disconnected at the clevis pin, added a jam nut and reattached. I then tightened another 1/2 inch. Still can’t shift into gear with engine running. Not sure what I did wrong but looks like I’ll be dropping the transmission. Yuck!

Can anyone tell what is wrong? Clutch not engaging.

See the position of the cable adjustment relative to the yoke. Adjusted enough?

Other pictures are of clutch when pedal depressed and when not depressed. Anything you can tell from the photos — not enough adjustment, improper installation, ….?

Are my eyes seeing a t/o bearing that's installed backwards ?
Is that even possible on a 4cylinder ?
