How Much Does My Jeep Weigh?

‘66 V6 steel bumpers, winch, tire carrier, steel wheels 33” tires, D30 front, Power steering, T18 swapped. Looking at new(used) toy hauler camper. Cargo area max is 2500lbs. Educated Guess is good.

Is there a gravel pit or scrap steel dealer near you? Put it on the scales.

 

The MBs weighed in at 2500 lbs IIRC. I would say a CJ5 with mods is over that.

 

My jeep with its mods is 3190 on a certified scale.

 

weighted mine in california , little over 3100 with soft top

 

Nearly certain more than that.
I weigh about 175
cj 3B with me in it, 2800
cj6 and me 3200
cj5 and me and normal junk, nearly 3800

Mine is similar to yours, 3175 ona certified scale.

 

I think 3100-3200 is pretty typical. My 3B was 3150 with the usual trail gear but no camping or other stuff.

 

With me and wife, tools and some trail gear and tools, about 15 gallons of gas and awinch on the front; my 71 CJ5 was just under 3100#

 

When I moved to CO, the DMV asked me for a weight of my 1971 CJ5. It wasn't on my previous title. I told them 2300lbs and they were happy.
It appears I underestimated!
Now, I'm guessing it's closer to 3200lbs.

 

Be sure you check to insure that number is max cargo after subtracting propane, water, and onboard fuel tank. Many toy haulers list the tare and gross weight, then begin to subtract propane, fuel and water before giving the actual cargo capacity.
Also watch out for width, as earlier toy haulers are narrower than later wide bodies.
If it has a drop down rear bed/couch, overhead clearance may be an issue as well.

 

This and the ramp door rating, Most Toy Haulers that are born of camper chassis have ramp door ratings that are less than desirable. You will want to look at the cargo/car based chassis. Work & Play and Sundowner are 2 of the more popular ones.

Found it. As a base, then add winch, etc.

 

Back in the day, I was after the lightest weight practical for my Tux. I got it down a little under 2000 lbs. No top or rollbar, 10" steel wagon wheels, but an all alloy 215 Buick V8, moved back about 4". Measured on a DOT certified scale.
Scott, I would guess your at least around 2800 or a bit more.

4950 for the CJ6. Without me in it. Lol

 

How did that happen? Twice the weight of a CJ5?
