This is the one I bought at a local farm auction last spring. It's been sitting in the back of the old red barn since then. I wasn't going to do anything with it until next summer, but I've decided to get started on it now.

Job 1: get rid of those stinking, rotten, mouse infested seats. Took care of that today. They're now headed for the landfill, right where they belong. :) I've bought a couple of those plastic "racing seats", need to make some new brackets to mount them to the original seat bases. I suppose eventually I'll put something more comfortable in, but the plastic ones will do for now.

I also took out the rear seat. The frame has surface rust but is otherwise in good condition. However, the home made seat cushion was just like the front seats, full of mouse debris. It's lying between the two front seats at the transfer station, also headed to the land fill.

Next, pull the fuel tank, then get out the pressure washer and clean away decades of mouse debris from the tub and the engine compartment.

It's very stock and original and I intend to keep it that way. Just get it steering, stopping and running well, add some new tires to the stock wheels, maybe buff out the original paint and clean up some of the surface rust inside the tub, then cruise the roads on the Targhee National Forest here in eastern Idaho.

Are the stripes an early Renegade thing?

Good question. I've been thinking they were probably a dealer installed item, but, if anyone has other info on them I'd like to hear it.

To me it looks like a 69, maybe later in year and sold in 70 making it a 70 ? My 70 had the front fender marker and rear quarter marker lights and that was a January or Feb build . Looks like a nice set of original tail lights. Same as my 68. I think the 69 was the only model year with the hood mounted reflectors. That's a nice solid looking CJ and will be a good project. Loved my 70 with Dauntless. What motor is in this one ?

You sir are a sharp eyed Jeep man! I did some research on the forum last spring after I bought it. With the help of some good folks here we determined that it was probably a summer '69 build, maybe July (?), that was titled and sold as a '70. I considered applying to the state to have the title changed to '69, but decided to leave it '70, at least for now. I did that with our '63 Mk III Tuxedo Park. When we got it it was titled as a '64, but it was not a Mk IV, it was a Mk III. I was able to show the state inspector the differences, he agreed with me, and we got to change the title to reflect what the vehicle actually was.

This one has the 225 Dauntless in it.

Hood reflectors to fender markers did not occur at the 1969 to 1970 model year switch over (usually around August). I know the October 1969 build (1970 model year) has hood mounted reflectors and under seat fuel tank.

There were a few bidders early, but at the end it came down to me and one other bidder. If you go back to last spring and find my post from after the auction I wrote a fairly complete description of the auction, including the price I paid. Good price? I feel like I paid a lot for it, but 6 months later and I still have no buyer's remorse.

The first three numbers of the serial number are 359 xxx, when I was researching it last spring it seemed that those numbers fell somewhere in mid-summer of 1969.

I ordered 4 Super Traxion 7:00 x 15 tires today. I really like the matching stock wheels so I ordered these for them. I have a set of black Renegade 1 deep dish wheels with BFG A/T tires on the M38A1, I'm sure I'll be swapping them on sometimes, just to change up the look. I also have a nice set of the K-H 5x16 heavy duty wheels. Some day ($$$!) I'd like to put some taller tires on them. Maybe some skinny Super Swampers or something like that.

Interesting, that's a lot later serial number than mine. Do you have a build date for yours? I might be tempted to get my title changed to a 1969 model year.

I am not currently at home but found a pic on my phone and zoomed in

its 267xxx. it also claims I have emissions but not sure on that one or what emissions on a 70s jeep would have been. (mine was sold out of Eureka Oregon and lived its life around Boise Idaho)
