I have the original molded plastic tank that catch overflow from the radiator. The seam where the two side meets on the bottom has split and the tank is leaking. What will be a good way to fix the tank?

I will be surprised if you find something that will work for that. These things hold hot liquid under pressure, and the plastic gets brittle with age, which probably has something to do with yours splitting.

I think your best bet is to replace it rather than trying to repair it.

Gatorade bottle and a couple zip ties works pretty well, if you can stomach the Bubba factor.

Seen a lot of them made out of the stainless water bottles at shows. Was thinking about getting some from the thrift store and flattening the top. Then you can drill a hole to accept the overflow hose. It looks like they work, and they look really good.

I don't think the overflow catch "can" should be under any pressure. They are open to the atmosphere. And I don't think they typically get very warm unless something else is amiss. Getting something to stick for a repair is another question. Maybe something like Flex Seal tape might work.

I think it's the Glycol in the coolant that would be the ungluing . Just go the $ 10 for a new one & be done with it.

Overflow cans aren’t under pressure. I have silicone hose running to a booze bottle. Drilled a hole in the bottle cap and installed a rubber grommet to keep the hose from getting cut. Works great.

I thought the catch bottle was put in by Kaiser. Here are pictures of what I got.

Steve I have that bottle if you would like it. I remember my dad buying/installing it 40ish years ago - so not original to my Jeep.

If you feel it is important to keep the original, you could try 'welding' it with a soldering gun. Use some waste plastic from another similar source as filler rod. I do that with plastic gas cans, etc.

I was curious about this one. I've never seen an OEM overflow bottle on a CJ, but we all know that you can never say never when it comes to old Jeeps! I looked in my parts book & there's no listing for a bottle for a CJ or Commando. So, I feel confident saying it's not stock.
Having said that, it's a good addition, it'll allow the radiator to stay completely full at all times.
