Toyota Landcruiser Steering Gear

    i seen a 72 landcruiser the other day, so naturally I was climbing all over it. I looked at the steering gear, and thought it may be good for CJ applications. anybody here ever gone this route?

    That's their version of a bell crank. I believe that their drag link is on the outside of the frame.

    Yes...the gear is located near the base of the column in the outside of the frame with a drag link up along the outside of the frame rail to that pivot/bellcrank. But they do have power steering options for it.

    I have a ‘67 FJ40 I use for plowing. It still has the original steering, it would not be much of an improvement. Landcruiser guys swap over to Saginaw and more modern FJ 60 boxes the same as early jeep guys do. Both older systems just have a lot of connections to get sloppy.

    That explains my initial confusion reading this thread. I almost bought an older FJ40 a couple of years ago and remembered it had a Saginaw looking steering box mounted on the frame horn. I didn't know that was a conversion, so was surprised to see this one.
